I have found as I've gotten further and further into my piano lessons that I absolutely love playing through new music for the first time... in particular, fresh music that is just a tiny step above my current level of competency. It's both invigorating and tiring, and I can't get enough of it.

And the really cool part is that after I've played a piece like that, I can go back immediately to an older piece I've been working on and just play it right through smoothly... and there's a certain level of energy involved in that too. Of course, then I usually have to shut the keyboard off and step away, because I wasn't kidding about the tiring part -- it can be almost physically draining to work through a new piece of music. And yet I feel all bouncy at the same time.

So, so glad I decided to finally just do it when it came to piano lessons, after all those years of thinking about it. And I can't believe I only started them less than eight months ago...

Good for you for sticking with it and getting to the stage where it's enjoyable. I wish I'd stuck to my lessons when I was at University. I'd changed my joint honours subject from history (something creepy about my history tutor) to music and found myself (as a self taught guitarist) having to learn piano as my 'major' instrument at the ripe old age of 19. I think the lack of a piano in my lodgings may have had something to do with my failure with the instrument.

I'm definitely too old now - and haven't the room for a piano in the house in any case.
