fenchurch: (Serenity)

Just got home from seeing it for my fourth time (first time in general theatrical release). Wow. The effect of the music and the added sounds was amazing... though I still thought some of the CGI was a tad cringeworthy (sadly, I think the worst shots of the ship were the very first ones we saw).

I loved the changes they made, some of the little snippets that were added in and even some of the bits they cut... a few of the scenes that were entirely too artfully done were cut down and not nearly as conspicuous (don't get me wrong, they were very pretty... but really didn't fit in with the rest of the movie). And there weren't nearly as many shots of River's feet!

We ended up going to see the movie at the new theaters at Alderwood Mall (which are absolutely fantastic) and the place was packed to the gills (considering the "auditorium" we were in was humongous, that's quite a feat). Though it seemed a bit strange to not have someone up front before the movie leading us in the theme song and in the Ballad of Jayne... I'd kinda gotten used to that from the Advance Screenings (however, after the movie was over we did overhear a passle of teenage girls singing the Ballad of Jayne as they were heading out of the theater). Oddly, I also didn't see any cunning hats. Maybe I just missed them, but I'd figured at least a few people would wear them.

Okay, I don't know why the "River is made of chocolate" thingy makes me laugh every time I see it, but it does...

It still just slams me when Wash is killed. Yeah, I get why it happened (for both plot reasons and real world reasons), but it doesn't make me any happier. I loved him individually, but he also made up one half of my favorite character: Wash&Zoe (seriously, there was just something so wonderful about the dynamic of their relationship that made it a character in its own right).

The Operative is still annoying. I don't know, maybe if they'd gone with a non-British accented actor fo the role. I think it was partially the accent that pushes it a bit too far for me.

Love Mr. Universe... though that may partially be because the dirty old woman in me thinks that David Krumholtz is hot, hot, hot!

David Krumholz??? ewwwww.

Sorry.

I like his brother - the guy from Northern Exposure - in Numb3rs though!

I've only seen it once, but I loved the Operative. Over-the-top, sure, but what a fun character.

Looking forward to seeing it again!

Heh. Differing tastes. To me Rob Morrow is kinda cute, but David Krumholtz his hot. It may be influenced a bit by the Geek factor of the characters he usually plays, but there you have it!

Oh. Much like a recent Star Wars or Spider-man film. I so hate CGI.

I thought the operative was hot. Then again, me and British accents. Ummm... Spike.

Oops, where was I?

Yeah, especially since we've seen the good stuff... so we know it doesn't have to suck. That probably makes it a bit worse.

I actually thought he was fairly hot, too... but there's just something about taking a character like that and making him British that seems like overkill to me. Although in trying to think what other accent they could have gone with, I've now got this mental movie running through my head where he was Canadian, and it's making me giggle. Maybe I shouldn't have watched that video for "Mosquito."

Which good stuff was that? I don't recall any 'good' CGI.

I liked Wash and Zoe because it was refreshing to see a married couple be the way they were. And also because they WERE married.

What were the real world reasons?

Alan Tudyk's career. It's really been taking off... and he was probably the one least likely to be available for future movies. They've still got a lot of wiggle room, if his schedule is amenable, to put him in future movies -- in flashbacks or by setting the films before "Serenity" (which is what Chris Buchanan hinted at during the Q&A after the Portland Advance Screening). But this way they don't have to try to do a movie set after "Serenity" with him if he isn't available for it.

I believe his commitment to 'Spamalot' also meant that he was only available for about two-thirds of the shoot, so they needed to get him out of the action at some point. I hated that he died, but it did make the latter stages of the movie more powerful.

You speak the truth. The first time I saw it, I was stunned into immobility. The second and third, I cringe as I wait for that moment. I keep hoping that this time, it'll end differently. Wash...

::sniffs::

But I still think it's a great film.
