Broken toe?
Mar. 10th, 2005 09:30 pmYeah, it looks like I may have broken the little toe on my left foot.
I stubbed it rather severely on The Thing In My Trunk (which I'd left sitting out behind the computer desks -- it's since been moved) and at the time my first thought (before I'd had a chance to look at it -- I was still hopping around on my other foot, cursing old computer hardware and saying "Ow" a lot) was that I'd broken the toenail and driven it into the toe or something. Really sharp, hard pain.
I stayed off it for awhile and kept it propped up (easy to do, since I always prop my feet up when I'm on my computer), but when I got up to walk around awhile later, it still hurt and I couldn't put weight on it. After about four hours it still hadn't gotten any better and was a bit swollen (probably not as bad as it could have been because I'd kept it propped).
I finally decided to call my mom and step-dad (since he's a Physical Therapist and has worked as an EMT, he's usually got good advice on this sort of thing). He told me pretty much what I'd expected... if I went to the ER, I'd likely be sitting around there for four hours or so, they'd probably X-ray it, tape it up, give me some sort of
anti-inflammatory and then send me home.
So, I had
rackham tape it for me when he got home, took some Advil, kept it iced and elevated and have stayed off it as much as possible. And it still hurts. Throbby pain, burning pain, and then there's sharp pain if I try to walk on it.
Assuming it's actually still hurting in the morning (which I'm betting it will be) I'm going to give my doctor's office a call and see if they can get me in. Not that they're likely to do much more for it than I've done, but I'd feel better if I got it checked out. I've never broken a bone before, so it's got me a little nervous.
In the meantime... ouch!!!!!
