fenchurch: (St. Helens)
Although thankfully we've mostly been out of any of the really bad stuff and haven't been in any real danger here.

So, there was the snow on Saturday, followed by freezing rain, a bit more snow, even more freezing rain... and then rain, rain, rain. The ground is already so saturated that the deluge we've been experiencing hasn't had anywhere to go, except along the surface and into the waterways. We're lucky... no flooding right around our house, although several roads nearby have been closed and the two towns just north of us are practically underwater. In fact, earlier today (Monday), I was heading out the door to run up to Woodinville to do some shopping when I heard on the radio that there were some road closures, so I just zipped over to our local Safeway instead. A smart move, considering I would have had to drive through THIS (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mlyn for the link, which goes to a video at the KING 5 news site). That's pretty much the major route into Woodinville from our house. The freeway right there has been closed as well and is apparently under about five feet of water.

We've supposedly hit the second wettest day on record for Seattle...  )

And it's still raining.

Under the cut, a pic I took of flooding on the road just down from our house. )

I felt really bad when I drove past a guy out bailing his driveway and trying to keep ahead of the water. Seriously, if my shoulders weren't still so screwed up (and I had PT today, so the left one is extra sore), I would have stopped to see if he needed help. I suspect what he really needed were sandbags.

I'm guessing [livejournal.com profile] dolphinchatter doesn't have electricity, judging by the news coming from his area. And I really hope that [livejournal.com profile] lissybear is okay, since her town apparently got seriously slammed, doesn't have any power and they've been told to boil their water before drinking it.

So, all my friends here in the Northwest, please check in if you're able. And stay safe and dry...
