Middle of the week already?
Dec. 5th, 2007 11:20 pmQuick update on flooding related things... I think I've heard from everyone on my flist who lives in the really hard hit areas and they're all okay. And yesterday, my step-dad finally heard from my step-brother who lives with his family just outside Tillamook, OR (an area that got slammed HARD by winds and rain). Apparently, they don't have power and I'm not sure if they have a working landline or if they're using cellphones, but he apparently wasn't able to talk very long... just enough to say that they were all fine and that their house is still standing.

rackham was looking through some of the photos of the Interstate down by Chehalis and came across one that let us know what happened to Sowerby's Restaurant. It can be seen on this page at the Seattle Times website. It's the light yellow building on the right-hand side of the photo... apparently, they still had electricity when this was taken, because you can see one of the neon signs lit up in an upper window. The front of the building is, I believe, around to the left of the side we're seeing there, and if you take a peek at the photo on the restaurant's website, you can see how high the porch is... the one that's pretty much at the water line. Then, of course, there's the main focus of the picture: the submerged interstate and the vehicles stranded after taking shelter on the overpass.
Originally, I'd planned on driving down to Hood River, OR this weekend to meet up with my mom... but we decided last week to postpone it until after Christmas, since I didn't think my shoulder was up to that sort of driving yet. Good thing, too, since there's no way I'd want to drive the extra few hundred miles it would take to go around the "detour."
In a completely unrelated topic, I actually *am* watching some television these days, although I'm behind on nearly everything. I've found I'm looking forward to the upcoming hiatus, when I hopefully will have a chance to get caught up!
