After a fun visit with [livejournal.com profile] nmissi and a weekend up at GenCon, I'd been looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight... alas, it was not to be. Our flight was about half an hour late in arriving in Louisville to pick us up, which pushed us out a bit to begin with. Then we wound up sitting on the flight line for 45 minutes while a mechanic came out to examine the air conditioning (which apparently failed the pre-flight check... and since it's responsible for pressurizing the cabin, it seems fairly important).

Finally, the second AC unit was declared fit, the paperwork was filled out and we were ready to go, an hour and a half after we were originally supposed to leave. At that point, they knew that most of us weren't going to make our flights, were able to do some flight shuffling for a few lucky folks, and offered people the chance to stay the night in Louisville if they wanted. It was actually a nice idea, since a number of people on the flight actually live there, but it delayed us another half hour while they got off and the flight crew dug out their luggage.

Extremely long evening ensued, but I'm staying at the Holiday Inn at the Cincinnati Airport (which just happens to be in Kentucky) at Delta's expense... with a flight out tomorrow at 9:00am. Sadly, that means I arrive home at the same time our cat has a vet appointment, so I won't even get to see [livejournal.com profile] rackham when I get off the plane. :-(

In some ways, it's been fun... after dropping off my stuff, I headed down to the hotel restaurant, since lunch had been about nine hours earlier and I was hungry, and ran into one of my fellow stranded passengers who waved me over to her table, and we did the same to yet another fellow passenger... and had a wonderful time chatting over dinner.

Of course, I'm also now very glad I get a bit paranoid about delayed luggage when I'm traveling... I have a clean shirt and underclothes in my carry-on. Of course, the stupid thing I did was to pack my laptop charger in my checked luggage along with my cell-phone charger (under the assumption that if my luggage was late getting to Seattle, I had spares of those things at home), so both are going to have to be used sparingly (thank heavens my laptop battery and spare were both fully charged).

With my luck, my luggage will get to Seattle before me.

Well, I finally found the internet friendly kiosks. Apparently, when I was here on my way to Louisville, I just happened to be in the one concourse without any connections aside from their highly overpriced 65cents/minute Laptop Alley. Still a bit of a charge ($5 for 15 minutes), but it's high speed and located right at my departing gate... and we'll be boarding soon anyway, so it's not like I'll need a ton of time.

I can't wait to get home... for one my now ONE night in my own bed. Do a quick flurry of laundry, get repacked, and head out tomorrow morning for Boise.

Have I mentioned how much I want to just be home for awhile?

HOME!!

Home. Home. Home. Home. Home.

Home.

I love that word.

(Although I've now stared at it long enough that it looks a bit funny.)
