I've seen a few other people do it, so I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon... I used the fall schedule guide out at Futon Critic to make my list, which means I might have missed a few things, if they didn't show up there.

I'm finding myself in the strange position of hoping some of these shows really suck, because I really don't want to spend that much time watching television!

The shows in italics are the ones I want to check out, but have no idea whether they'll actually catch me in the long run.

Monday:

8PM - Chuck
9PM - Heroes
10PM - Journeyman

Tuesday:

6PM - Reaper
8PM - Bones
9PM - House

Wednesday:

8PM - Pushing Daisies
9PM - Bionic Woman

Thursday:

10PM - Without a Trace (duh!)

Friday:

9PM - Moonlight (I don't have a lot of hope for this one, but figure I'll at least give it a try.)
10PM - Numb3rs

Sunday:

8PM - Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (sometimes, you just want feel-good TV)

I think Moonlight is the one that sounds almost like an Angel rip-off!

Sounds very similar to my planned schedule. Did you know James Marsters got a reoccurring role on Without a Trace this season?

Yeah, Moonlight is the one that's being accused of being an Angel rip-off. To be fair, Forever Knight did the vampire detective (although it was a police detective) thing long before Angel ever appeared. I'm thinking Moonlight sounds like a little of a cross between Angel, Forever Knight and Kindred: The Embraced as far as the vamp detective and actual vamp lore goes. For some reason I really, really want it to be good. I miss vamp related TV.

Random thought on Numb3rs: So what is Don's shrink going to do about the fact that all his trust issues with his team members were proved to be perfectly legit in the finale last season? Maybe Don doesn't have trust issues, he's just that good at reading people. And I'm still cranky about the whole Colby thing.

All I've seen about Moonlight is a commercial. I want to have hope for it. Have you read anything about it that leads you to not have hope, or is it just pessimism brought on from experience in expecting too much and getting too little? :)

Moonlight seems to have had a checkered production path -- IMDB doesn't list a series creator credit, but David Greenwalt (Angel) was brought in to replace the original showrunner (don't know who that was), but left again after three months, citing "personal reasons". The new showrunner is Chip Johannesson (formerly of Dark Angel and Beverly Hills 90210); Ron Koslow (Beauty and the Beast) is one of the series writer/producers, as is Joel Silver (Veronica Mars). Also coming from VM is Jason Dohring, playing someone named "Josef"....

On the plus side: Koslow ought to know what he's doing, and the combination of genre credits suggests that the producers should be willing and able to play to the smart end of the audience. On the down side: the amount of early turnover is worrisome, and may mean that the series will take a number of episodes to find its direction.

To the extent that one can judge from the limited promos and coverage I've seen, the sense I get is that the intended vibe is, in fact, in the general vicinity of Remington Steele/Moonlighting -- although for obvious legal reasons, no one's going anywhere near making the connection overtly. If that's a correct guess, and if they can pull it off, Moonlight might turn out very well indeed. OTOH, that's an awfully ambitious target for a cast whose credits are mostly pretty lightweight. I don't know that I'd hold my breath.

What James Marsters got a reoccurring role on Without a Trace this season??? Where did you hear that?

Colby is returning so maybe it's all a plan-within-a-plan kind of thing.

The only new show I'll try is "Moonlight" because I need my vampire-fix.

Wow, the only shows I want to watch out of your list are Journeyman [OH KEVIN], Heroes and Moonlight. Oh and I'll still watch Lost whenever it turns up.

Beyond that, I'm looking forward to the Jane Austen adaptations on PBS (even though I've heard they suck) and, of course, online viewing of the next seasons of Doctor Who and Torchwood.

Nothing else seems worthy of my time.

Whoops - strike Heroes off the list. Kristen Bell is joining the cast next year. Feh.

Yep. I had some hope because they've snagged Jason Doering and, for a little while, managed to get David Greenwalt as showrunner. But he left for "personal reason" and, well, that really doesn't give me a lot of hope for it. But I'm still willing to at least give it a look.

Oh yeah... that's why that one rated a "Duh" after the listing. :-) I've never actually seen the show before, but it always struck me as being one I would probably enjoy, so I'm pretty happy he's gotten a role on that show.

For some reason I really, really want it to be good. I miss vamp related TV.

I would love for it to be good, because it hits a lot of my buttons for genre shows... but with all the behind the scenes turmoil and changes, I'm not holding out a lot of hope. That's not going to keep me from checking it out, though.

So what is Don's shrink going to do about the fact that all his trust issues with his team members were proved to be perfectly legit in the finale last season? Maybe Don doesn't have trust issues, he's just that good at reading people.

I know!!! My optimistic side hopes they did that deliberately.

And I'm still cranky about the whole Colby thing.

I totally didn't see it coming, but I could also buy it as a plot twist. I just hope they find some way of keeping him on the show. Which reminds me that I really need to get [livejournal.com profile] rackham to sit down and watch the finale so I can finally talk to him about it!

Yeah, I'm a bit bummed about that. The only thing giving me hope is that it's an ensemble show (which, color me shocked that she even deigned to join large cast like that), and if she starts to be a problem, it shouldn't be too hard to write her off. *crossed fingers*

As for Doctor Who and Torchwood, I'll be doing the same as you... then buying them when the DVDs finally get released.

Of course, I should also have added Good Eats to the list, because there's no way I'm missing new episodes of that show.

It was announced on his website about a week ago, and Matt Roush and assorted other TV critics have been doing the dance of joy about it.

Let's see, I'm down for Journeyman, House, Bones, and Bionic Woman with you. I'm also down for Ugly Betty and Friday Night Lights. Wednesdays are going to be tough for me, though, because I'm DVR-less and my tv can't tape something on a different channel. *criez*
