fenchurch: (Thanksgiving Pie)
[personal profile] fenchurch
Despite my iron-clad yearly vow to not listen to any Christmas music until Thanksgiving, I've found myself humming and singing "Sleigh Ride" all morning... with interruptions of "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow." I am taking some solace in the fact that I'm not *listening* to this stuff, I'm singing it. Or something. And, really, this sort of thing sometimes happens to me in the middle of summer, too. The weather really is pretty frightful, at the moment... very windy and rainy, so that may have something to do with it.

The new modem arrived yesterday and was completely plug-and-play... and suddenly we have happy, fast and consistent DSL again. Yay!!

Yesterday was also my weekly visit to the physical therapist. My previously broken shoulder is pretty much back to normal. It's still weak, but that's to be expected and is really the sort of thing I can work on by myself at the gym. My other shoulder is VERY slowly getting better. It's been layers upon layers -- when one problem is taken care of, it's revealing something else that's been underlying the issue the whole time. Recently, my PT and her boss gave it the once over and discovered I've got some ligament damage... and one of the ligaments in question apparently doesn't usually *get* damaged. My PT had never actually encountered the problem before (although her boss had, which is how she knew to check for it), though she'd read about it. Essentially, along with the other issues that have been dealt with, I've had some ligaments that are nicely inflamed and are pulling my AC joint out of whack. Since they've started treating the problem, I can actually occasionally raise my arm without the shoulder catching and popping. It's been a real relief!

We're getting geared up for the big day this week... since we're having [livejournal.com profile] taradaktyl and her family over for Thanksgiving again this year. I picked up a turkey yesterday over at Trader Joe's (organic and free range -- it really does make for better turkey) as well as some organic canned pumpkin. I've also tracked down a decent looking pineapple, which I need to chop up later today to stick in the freezer (yeah, I know, why not just buy frozen pineapple... but really, it's not the same) to put in the fruit salad when I make it tomorrow. Still a lot more stuff to buy, though, before everything starts to pull together! Plus, I want to get the kitchen cleared out a bit more... so we have the maximum amount of counter space available!

Ooo... you know, it's probably time to do a Thanksgiving recipe post again, since the last one was done three years ago!

I must confess I was listening to excerpts from Sarah McLachlan's new Christmas album this morning on iTunes. I won't break out my Garth Brooks Christmas album until Thursday, though. :)

Hooray for new modem!!!

Glad both shoulders are getting better, even if slowly.

I'm glad that they're slowly unraveling the mysteries of your shoulder. They'll get you "fully functional" again in no time!

Stay safe in the frightful weather!

I know what a big deal shoulder problems can be having had some myself. You have lots of sympathy from me.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving festivities.

BTW I now have the first chapter of cousinjean's The Butterfly Effect if you want me to send it to you.

Well, technically speaking, songs like "Sleigh Ride," "Let it Snow," and "Jingle Bells" aren't CHRISTMAS songs, they're winter songs - and if it's winter, then I say let 'em play. ;-)

I'm notorious for constantly humming/singing Christmas songs. It never matters what time of the year it is, so I understand your addiction. ;)

I'm a newbie to your list, so I need to ask the question - how did you break your shoulder? It sounds like it's on the mend, but I imagine it was very painful?

Sorry to take so long replying... I'm afraid I got busy with the holiday here!

My husband and I were in a really nasty multiple rollover car accident on December 30th, 2005. I broke my right shoulder in three places and did a bit of damage to the other shoulder although, as I mentioned, it's taken a really long time to figure out everything that was wrong.

I've added the first few entries about the accident to my LJ memories (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=fenchurche&keyword=Car+Accident&filter=all) if you want to take a look. I actually posted the first entry later that night, after we were released from the hospital into the care of my in-laws... it still amazes me how lucid I sounded, since I was heavily drugged, exhausted and in pain. I was, however, very grateful that we were in a hotel room and not the hospital and that the two things we'd had the EMTs bring with us in the ambulance were our laptops... because it meant every time I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep I could at least get online!

OMG! The car photos were rather spectacular!!!! I'm amazed you came out of that so well, but I'm also amazed at how well the car took the beating too! I'm glad you're on the mend now!
