Wow. This show just never ceases to amaze me. I did think that the Daleks vs. Cybermen thing got to be a little over-the-top... it was practically a fan-boy's wet dream. But still... who *hasn't* wanted to see the Cybermen and the Daleks go toe to, um, whatever it is Daleks have!

My guess for what would happen to Rose had been that she'd choose to stay on the alternate Earth for some rather compelling reason or other (and yeah, I figured it would have to be VERY compelling, but that she'd choose it anyway). So I *loved* how it all went down... because she didn't leave him and she clung to his world as hard as she could, risking possibly slipping into what amounted to an eternity in hell just to stay with him, and then the choice was taken from her completely. It was a beautiful and heartwrenching ending... and I'm going to miss them all. Not just Rose, but her family who persisted in being dragged into things regardless of the Doctor's plans.

But he loved her! And he almost got the words out! I've been so pleased with how they've handled the Doctor's relationships with his companions on this series... making it fairly plain that he's loved them all to some extent or another and that it tears him up when they leave him, as they inevitably must.

Wonderful stuff, and I can't wait to watch it again once [livejournal.com profile] rackham has caught up (I've only been watching the episodes once, so they wouldn't be too old hat for me by the time he got around to them). And I just wish my transfer of the Confidential had been a bit faster, since it's only halfway done and I'll be fast asleep by the time it's done!

Yes. This was such a lovely end in its own way -- they couldn't touch, and he couldn't quite get the words out, but she knew how he felt, which is more than they've given any other companion. That's something. I still feel awful for both of them, though. Rose was extra-special to him.

There is so much fanfic potential here it isn't funny (not that I want to read it, but still). And I wonder how they're going to top this pairing. Young Freema has her work cut out for her - to paraphrase Emily in The Devil Wears Prada, she has very large shoes to fill.
