Modern life is just so... neat.

I woke up this morning with the realization that I'd be falling asleep tonight in the guest room at my grandparents' house, two states away.

Even better, unless my grandfather has been tinkering with his wireless broadcaster, I should already be set up and ready to go on my laptop... so, wireless broadband while I'm visiting. Yay!!

I'm fairly certain I don't have anyone on my flist in the Sacramento area, but it never hurts to ask... I'm probably going to have a bit of free time while I'm there this weekend, which at this point I'm planning on filling up with visits to some of the local sights. So far, I'm hoping to get out to the Olive Pit (always a must) and maybe over to a place I haven't been since I was a child, Fairytale Town (mostly I'm just curious as to which memories are from there and which are from Storybook Island in Rapid City, South Dakota).

Have a great trip! That Olive Pit place sounds like a little piece of heaven to me :)And please, uh - keep all four wheels firmly on the pavement, K?

It's pretty much a family tradition... my parents always stopped in there whenever we went to visit my grandparents and I've seen no reason to quit!

Heh! Don't worry, I will! Although I'm actually flying, this trip. It's about a two day drive down to Sacramento from here, and I didn't think I was quite up to doing it on my own.

The zoo had a really pretty anteater when we were there last, and it's definitely worth a visit. Have fun!

And, assuming it's the same zoo, there's a dual-admission ticket for it and Fairytale Town. I'm thinking of heading over there on Monday during the day (a bit less likely to be crowded, I think).

Fairytale Town is right across the street. You should totally do it. :)

Heh! Well, in the "closer than Seattle" sense. :-p

That's a bit far for a quick get-together, I'm afraid.

Reno isn't that far from Sac, either. Although I don't know that my bank account needed to know how close I am to that many varieties of olives...

Nope, not too far... but far enough to make it a bit impractical for a quick get-together. :-( I actually go through that way every few years, when I do a road-trip through Sacramento and then into Utah before heading home through Idaho.

As for the Olive Pit, well... I actually took a look at it and felt a bit silly. It always seemed to be so close to Sacramento, which I guess it is if you've been driving all day on the way down from Seattle. :-p It's almost two hours north of here, so I won't be going. However, they do mail order, so I may have to give that a try sometime.

I had no idea! Of course, I have very little idea where any of the people on my flist live... unless they happen to talk about it a lot or have it referenced in their LJ name somewhere. :-)

What part of the area are you in? My grandparents live in the northeastern part of the city, not all that far from the river...

I'm thinking of heading out to Beale on Sunday for the Air Show (the Thunderbirds are supposed to be there!) and I'm also thinking of doing the Zoo and FairyTale Town on Monday... but otherwise I'm mostly just hanging out at my grandparents' house all weekend.
