Greetings from Long Beach, Washington
Mar. 26th, 2006 10:07 pmWe're here for the weekend for
rackham's birthday.
Happy Birthday Cutie!!
I'd intended to completely surprise him with this trip... I was going to pack up the car and everything, then Saturday I'd planned on taking him out to the Brown Bag Cafe for lunch (he loves that place but never gets to go, since they're only open for breakfast and lunch) then hop in the car and head south, springing the vacation on him at that point. Well, I failed to take into account that I still can't lift, well, anything. Stupid shoulders. In the end, I told him we were going away for the weekend, just not where, and had him help me load the car. Still got to surprise him with destination... and it's been a wonderful weekend!
We're staying in Long Beach, WA (supposedly the longest natural sand beach in the world) at the Inn at Discovery Coast, a bed and breakfast right down on the beach. Our room looks like it came straight out of an Ikea catalogue... very comfy, with wood plank flooring, a gas fireplace and a balcony.
We discovered the BEST restaurant... if you're ever vacationing here, you absolutely have to go to the 42nd Street Cafe. It looks like a fairly standard roadside diner, but the food is incredible! I would give anything to have a restaurant like this up near home. Of course, then we'd be constantly broke... but oh so happy. The owner/head chef is also a professionally trained harpist... she performed for a little over an hour tonight while we were there for dinner. Take a look at their menu if you get a chance. Everything about the place is incredible.
We've discovered that while walking along the beach may be incredibly romantic, it's also very, very tiring! *yawn*
