My first smelly entry
Mar. 17th, 2006 12:21 pmYeah, I'm joining the ranks of those who post the occasional BPAL review. I got my first batch of the stuff last year from the wonderful
queenofattolia (since the company itself was taking forever to get my first order out), and have found a few scents I absolutely adore, a few I kinda like, and several I can't stand.
Dana O'Shee and Lick It were especially nice right after the accident, because I found the first to be calming and uplifting, and the second to be invigorating and uplifting. Just the sort of scents I needed to have around.
Lick It -- What else could possibly be more lickable at Yuletide? This is a candy cane perfume, minty, sweet and sugared.
In the bottle: sweet and pepperminty
On the skin: Peppermint candy with a hint of rich vanilla... after a few hours it fades to more of a rich vanilla with a hint of peppermint sharpness. An invigorating and uplifting happy scent.
This is my absolute favorite. I wish I'd been more on the ball and gotten a second bottle of it.
Dana O'Shee -- Offerings of milk, honey and sweet grains were made to placate these creatures, and it is that the basis of the scent created in their name.
In the bottle: sweet and light, nice
On the skin: Mmmm... a calming sort of scent that makes me think of baking bread, even though it doesn't exactly smell like it. It reminds me, vaguely, of some milk & honey scented shampoos I've run across, but with that grain/bread scent mixed in. Or perhaps like really good oatmeal.
This is one of my favorites and I got a lot of use out of it right after the accident. It's the sort of smell that just makes you feel good.
Inferno -- cinnamon, bitter almond, and neroli. Heavily spiced, torrid, and possibly conflagrant.
In the bottle: Cinnamon!!!!
On the skin: It smells a bit like Red Hots. No, like gourmet Red Hots, if there were such a thing. A sort of candy cinnamon, but with an underlying richness. Smelling it makes my tongue ticklish (yes, really!), and it fades to a nice almondy cinnamon smell after a few hours.
This is another of my favorites, and it just occurred to me that I forgot to get a bottle of it when I put in my most recent order.
Bliss -- the serotonin-slathered scent of pure milk chocolate.
In the bottle: Unsurprisingly, chocolate.
On the skin: Still chocolaty, but more along the lines of chocolate-flavored candy or a chocolate scratch-n-sniff than the real thing. I like it though and will probably order another imp of it when this runs out.
Grog -- Arrr! Avast ye, matey! This be the scent of pirate rum!
In the bottle: very, very sweet
On the skin: Butter Rum Lifesavers! I like it, though it's not one I wear very often.
Jack -- true Halloween pumpkin, spiced with nutmeg, glowing peach and murky clove.
In the bottle: Spicy!
On the skin: Spicy pumpkin candle, definitely smell the wax there... after a few hours it begins to smell like a cherry candle for some reason. I like it, but I'm not crazy about it. Fun to wear when I'm in the mood to smell spicy and waxy. ;-)
Sugar Skull 2005 -- Vibrant with the joy and sweetness of life in death! A blend of five sugars, lightly dusted with candied fruits.
In the bottle: Sweet and candyish.
On the skin: not bad, definitely a candy sort of smell, but it's got an edge I don't care for as much. I might look at trading this one.
Gingerbread Poppet -- Warm, cosy gingerbread spiced with nutmeg, clove and cinnamon.
In the bottle: As one might expect, gingerbread.
On the skin: Hmmm. STRONG gingerbread. Not bad, but not terribly appealing as a perfume. I wonder if it might make a good room scent... or if I should just see about trading it.
White Rabbit -- Strong black tea and milk with white pepper, ginger, honey and vanilla, spilled over the crisp scent of clean linen.
In the bottle: clean and spicy
On the skin: Hmmm... a little soapy. Sort of a floral soap. Not unpleasant, but not really something I'm likely to wear very often... I don't find it all that appealing. I'll probably keep it though, because I could see where I might be in the mood for it, from time to time.
Two, Five and Seven -- A huge bouquet of squished rose petals: Bulgarian rose, Somalian rose, Turkish rose, Damascus rose, red and white rose, tea rose, wine rose, shrub roses, rose, rose, rose⦠and just an itty bitty bit of green grass.
In the bottle: Floral
On the skin: ROSE!!!!! Not unpleasant, I guess... it's just really not me at all.
Blood Kiss -- Lush, creamy vanilla and the honey of the sweetest kiss smeared with the vital throb of husky clove, swollen red cherries, but darkened with the vampiric sensuality of vetiver, soporific poppy and blood red wine, and a skin-light pulse of feral musk.
In the bottle: Strong incense (you know the line: "Smells like church... no, wait... EVIL church")
On the skin: Still incense, and not the sort I like. Once again, not unpleasant, but not the sort of smell I want hanging around me all day. Thankfully, it washed off pretty easily.

Date: 2006-03-17 09:25 pm (UTC)On me it smells like cinnamon pinwheel pastries my Mom used to make. With all the scents I've tried and liked, Inferno is definitely my "comfort scent".
