Endorphins are my friends!!
Oct. 19th, 2003 04:20 pmI don't know why I forget about this, but I invariably do. You wouldn't tell it to look at me, but my body actually really loves to exercise... and rewards me greatly when I get off my lazy butt and do it.
Last Thursday my Local Buffy Friend (or LBF for short -- I really should work on her to get a LJ account) finally dragged me out to Curves, something I'd been thinking of trying for awhile, especially after talking to
miggy about the program a few months back. Needless to say, I loved it and signed up that day, then came back on Friday for my official orientation along with weighing and measuring (which was horrible, but not as bad as it could have been, since I've managed to lose and keep off 20 lbs in the last year or so).
Anyway, the unexpected side effect that shouldn't have been unexpected at all because it happens every.single.time I exercise... I'm absolutely hyper. I mean, bouncing off the walls hyper (at least for most of the day Friday... by Saturday I just couldn't sit still for long, and today I'm starting to feel a bit more normal, but still decidedly more *awake* -- it's like someone injected me with caffeine). I've been doing all sorts of housework I kept putting off and I'm thinking of tackling the weeds in the yard again.
I always think it's going to be tough to get started with an exercise regimen, but I nearly always get this sort of rush when it happens... and the nice thing about Curves is that it's fairly structured so it's tough to over-do it (which is one of the main problems I've had in the past... and can you blame me? I get a kick of endorphins and want to take on the world, only to severely strain muscles to the point that I'm not able to keep up the exercising).
I'm really looking forward to this... the setup at Curves is easy, fast, convenient, and even better... they're everywhere. I do so much traveling and it's been the other big stumbling block to keeping up with the exercise. Just when I'd get into the habit of doing whatever (yardwork or swimming mostly), I'd be out of town for a week and blow it all the smithereens.
Assuming Curves is as effective as I think it's going to be, I'm going to post occasional updates here. But, of course, if I utterly fail at this, you're never going to hear a peep out of me about it again. :-p
