We'd originally planned to leave home yesterday, but realized around Noon that there was no way we'd manage to get out the door in a calm and orderly manner (i.e. without likely forgetting important stuff). So, we figured we'd leave this morning and just take our time getting prepped for the trip... what a difference a day makes. Not only were we more rested and much more likely to have done everything we needed to get done, but yesterday there were massive ice storms all along our route (I-90 was closed for a few hours at one point, and the roads in northeastern Oregon were supposedly just wretched). Today, the temps ranged from the mid-30s to the low-40s, the roads were mostly bare and wet, and we just had to deal with some rain and fog. Still not ideal, but so much better than it would have been if we'd headed out on time.

So, here we are in Boise (after a brief stop in LaGrande, OR to drop off and pick up presents and to fix my mom's wireless network), happily enjoying the wi-fi at our hotel and planning to hit the nearby Cracker Barrel restaurant for breakfast in the morning. Yay! There are no Cracker Barrels in Washington State, so it's a bit of a treat when there happens to be one handy.

In BPAL news, I got my shipping notification yesterday for the order I placed back in November. Judging from what I've seen of my friends' orders, that doesn't seem to be too bad a turnaround time. Even better, though, is that the wonderful and gracious [livejournal.com profile] queenofattolia was able to pick up a few things for me at the sale last week, including some of the Yule scents! Squee!! I swear, this stuff is like crack.

Oh, and I realized I forgot to mention that I got to be on the radio last week! There's a local radio host who returned from serving in Iraq earlier this year... He'd gotten married while home on leave in 2004, and was explaining that shopping for her for their first Christmas had been really easy -- he'd just gone online and ordered something and knew she'd love whatever it was, because it's not like he had much of a chance to do any real shopping. Well, this year he's home and he felt he needed to put a little more effort into it... so he was asking for suggestions.

And, of course, every single woman was calling in telling him to buy jewelry. Even after he flat out said his wife isn't into jewelry at all... they would insist that she'd love it anyway. Grrr. So, I called in and told him that they were all giving him horrible advice. I told him not all women want diamonds or gold or any other precious metal or gems, despite what the jewelry stores would have us believe, and that if he got jewelry for his wife when he knows she doesn't like it, that's not going to tell her that he loves her... that will tell her that he doesn't know her well enough to get her what she really wants.

Yeah, it's a pet peeve of mine.

This time of year [livejournal.com profile] rackham likes to go into a fake mesmerized monotone and quote jewelry commercials at me (such as "jewelry would make a lovely gift this year" and "what better way to say I love you than with the gift of jewelry") as if he's been brainwashed. Hee!

Whee! Prezzies! And now that you've brought up the topic, something (shipped in a bizarre homemade box, because I couldn't find anything to fit) should be waiting for you guys when you get home. It's silly, but I saw it and pretty much shouted "Fen!" right there in the store.
