Saturday Adventures and Sunday Travels

fenchurchIf you ever get a chance to attend a live symphony performance of the music of Star Wars, you should absolutely jump at it. It was beyond incredible!! I still think that "Duel of the Fates" is the best thing John Williams has ever written... and with the orchestra and the choir right there on the stage? Inspiring and invigorating.
The other big event yesterday: We got new cellphones!!!
We'd had our last ones for over two years, and mine in particular just wasn't holding a charge like it used to (it would constantly chirrup at me that I needed to change the battery, even while it was plugged in and charging). I'll admit it... if money was no object, I would have had one of these babies on order faster than you can spit. Instead, I'll just have to content myself with drooling over the prospect of picking up something similar in two years when our new contract runs out. They should be cheaper by then, and likely have any potential kinks ironed out.
In the meantime, we picked up new phones that will do things that either weren't available two years ago for our last phones, or had just come on the market and were still too friggin' expensive then... now most of this stuff is old hat.
I have streaming video on my phone!! Squee!! I can get a weather report while I'm driving through southern Idaho. I can watch or listen to the news headlines! I have a bigger screen for surfing the web! (My last phone had websurfing capabilities, which I loved, but was very very limited on screensize.) And I can finally take pictures with my phone!
And, best of all, the phones are easily hackable... we're already working at putting on our own ringtones and wallpapers.
What else happened yesterday? The Raison d'Etre Awards were announced! Go take a look at the winners, and definitely take a look at all the nominees if you get a chance. The stories were all incredibly good, and there's bound to be something for everyone to enjoy.
As for today? I'm mostly doing a sedate scramble (I'm not on a schedule, so there's nothing mad about it), getting ready to head out to my dad's place just outside Spokane and then continue on tomorrow to my grandmother's house in Idaho Falls, Idaho. And you know what going to Idaho Falls means? AUSTRALIAN FOOD!!!! Yay!!! I'm taking a bigger cooler this time, since we ran out of the meat pies and pasties from my last trip way too fast. Hmmm... need to check our stash of tomato sauce, too... make sure we're not about to run out.
