I just realized I haven't updated at all since I got home...

I successfully fought off a cold early in the week. Not terribly surprising that it'd be a problem, after being crammed into a convention with as many as 20,000 other people for the weekend, after two weeks of constantly being on the go, not getting much sleep, and only sporadically eating the way I'm supposed to be. The big surprise is that I didn't get a cold sore first. But as a consequence, I ended up sleeping way too much this week, even though I pulled out of it pretty quickly. And a big thank you to [livejournal.com profile] taradaktyl for recommending Breathe Easy tea... it really did the trick.

It occurred to me that I never once went to White Castle while I was in Kentucky, and usually it's a standard stop when I'm visiting the area. I did, however, eat way too much excellent southern food at various diners and restaurants. If you're ever near Monteagle, Tennessee, I highly recommend trying Jim Oliver's Smokehouse Restaurant and Trading Post. Absolutely incredible food.

On the plus (or rather, happily minus) side of things, I still managed to lose five pounds in the last two weeks... which just goes to show that it's worth trying to get plenty of exercise on vacation, and that even with the decadent southern restaurants, I managed to still eat pretty decently. That makes 25 pounds in the last three months... I really should have gone to a naturopath a few years ago.

Tomorrow, we're heading south for a very quick trip to Portland, OR to visit [livejournal.com profile] corellian_sugar and to pick up an abandoned cat she recently found. We're both pretty excited about this, though I suspect Polly (who has been reveling in being an only cat) won't be as pleased. However, I'm going to be home for a little while and we have some pretty easy ways to keep them separated until they can be fully integrated. Oh, and I've already got an appointment with our vet for the new cat (since there's a good chance she's never been to a vet, or at the very least, not recently), unfortunately not until next Tuesday, which means we'll be keeping the cats separate until then, just in case. :-(

I hope you have better luck integrating your cats than I did; the one time I tried to bring home a friend for Samantha, she let me know in no uncertain terms - I'll spare you the gory details - that she had absolutely no interest in sharing her living space with another feline. Fortunately, the shelter I got the other kitty from was a no-kill shelter, so I could take her back without fear of condemning her.

Congrats on the weight lossage! I think I found that five pounds you lost; they took up residence on my belly and hips, which are now squooshier than ever.

Again, it was really nice meeting you last weekend!

Yes yes yes!!!

I'm so glad you're able to pick up the cat!!! I was so sad to see she had to give her up this morning, this way she gets to stay in the CJ crowd!

And if you have not had the chance to me corellian sugar, you're gonna love her. She ROCKS. :)

You know, I'm not sure. I thought I'd met her at my first JadeCon, but [livejournal.com profile] nmissi didn't think she'd been actually been there. It really was a matter of having met so many new people that year that I wasn't able to keep track. I guess I'll find out for sure tomorrow if she matches the picture I have of her in my brain...

If you were at the JadeCon that had the suite turned into the Outlander Club, you've probably seen me. I also was the insidious punk that killed PG and others at the Murder Mystery party. I was terribly anemic and not terribly social that weekend as my hemocrit level sucked on ice. I spent a lot of the time in the hall with Missi when she took cig breaks, actually. :)

Congratulations on the 25-pound drop. That's excellent. And I've gotta get some tips from you -- I don't think I've ever lost weight on a vacation! LOL

Congratulations on both the weight loss (something I have got to get serious about) and the new kitty. :-)

Oh, I'm so glad you're taking Baby Girl. What a perfect solution!

20,000 people? How appalling. Makes me feel faint with claustrophobia just thinking of it. : }
