In Atlanta

Made it down to Atlanta late last night... we passed semi-truck after semi-truck with supplies that I'm fairly sure were on their way to the disaster areas (there was even one "portable shower truck" -- I had no clue such a thing existed, but this one was heading down from Ohio (judging by the license plate)). If I thought there was anything I could actually do to help, I'd have been tempted to keep going and lend some elbow grease, if nothing else. Gonna have to be content with monetary aid and donating blood (on the docket for today if I can get in).

The footage from the disaster area is making me sicker and angrier... wondering why it took the rescue efforts so long to get organized and even angrier at the lawless assholes who seem to thinking this is fricking scumbag Christmas or something. Keeping those involved in the rescue efforts in my prayers, because not only do they have to deal with the horrific conditions, but also those same scumbag assholes attacking them.

I'm also very grateful to rosiewook for letting us crash here for the weekend... especially now that it looks like she may not get much time at Dragon*Con, herself (she works for the CDC and, as you can imagine, things are pretty busy right now).

Apparently still no word from Bobbi or Dave, though at least we know that sithspit and his family are safe.

The most frustrating thing, for me, is that I have NO money right now--and according to all relief efforts in the area, that's the one thing that's most needed. I've decided to crochet a child-sized afghan, sell it on eBay and donate every penny I get to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. It probably won't be much, but it's better than doing nothing.

Amy posted to CJ that she has spoken with Bobbi, so that's one down at least. Still no word from Dave yet.

And you know, you might have been of use. I think some of the sick and elderly just want a hug and we can all do that.

Inspired by your talk of blood donation, I donated today. It was a little thing, but it felt better than doing nothing, and I appreciated you while I was there for mentioning it.
