I had a wonderful visit with [livejournal.com profile] merripen and [livejournal.com profile] krrayn in Indianapolis yesterday... they're the sort of friends I really wished lived about five or six states closer! They introduced me to a really fun boardgame, Minion Hunter, which is, of course, out of print (which won't stop me from trying to track down a copy). I would not be surprised to discover it was developed by someone who was a big fan of Arkham Horror... the two games have quite a bit in common in design and gameplay.

Today I stopped by the Indianapolis Speedway... I'm not into car racing at all, but it was still fun to check out the museum. I drove around Indy a bit and then headed south on some "back roads" (four lane divided highway... with occasional stoplights). Drove through Bloomington, down past Bedford and into Mitchell. I followed the signs and found the Gus Grissom Memorial in Mitchell (very cool, though I'm guessing it's not a high traffic attraction).

After that I started looking over the map and realized I was in the area with all the caverns (I'd been thinking of heading back into Indiana early next week to see them) and that I was still a few hours away from Louisville. So, I drove back up to Bedford and got a hotel room for the night. Tomorrow I'm going to try heading out at a decent hour (tough to do since I'm still not fully adjusted to the time zone) and hit a few of the caverns before driving back to Kentucky. If I want something to explore next week, I'll do a bit more driving around Louisville, or perhaps try the area a bit south or even check out Kentucky Down Under.

Indiana! Many a summer of my childhood was spent in Indiana, catching lightnin' bugs on warm evenings. I feel a song coming on.

Back home again in Indiana
And it seems that I can see
The gleaming candlelight still shining bright
Through the sycamores for me
The new-mown hay sends all its fragrance
From the fields I used to roam
When I think about the moonlight on the outhouse Wabash
How I long for my Indiana hoooome!
