Busy day

Well, I didn't get the lawn mowed, mostly because it's been raining all day... which meant I decided it was the perfect time to finally get around to clearing out my weed-infested flowerbeds (the ground was nice and loose from the rain, and there was no pesky sun overhead to create too much heat). Nearly three hours later, I realized I should have stopped about 90 minutes earlier. Oh well. It's all done, or done enough that it looks good, at any rate. Should be easier to keep up with now. But I'm bone tired, and just a little achy.

We've got a friend and her daughters coming over tonight to start watching the new Doctor Who series. They don't have access to it any other way, and are HUGE fans (the two teenage daughters are named after the old series Doctor Who characters Tegan and Nyssa -- there's no better way to advertise to the world that you're a Whovian). Should be fun! Though I doubt we'll make it very far... certainly not far enough for them to experience the hotness that is Jack. Just the hotness that is The Doctor and Rose. ;-)

Earlier this week I got a postcard from [livejournal.com profile] fenwic from the Cedar City, Utah Shakespearian Festival... (thanks, Fen! (which still seems majorly weird to be typing! :-p)) you know, I lived in Utah for over eight years, always intended to go and never made it. Sadly, I can say that about a lot of stuff in Utah, though we've done our best to make up for it since then. And then yesterday, I got a postcard from [livejournal.com profile] fenwic, [livejournal.com profile] adjrun, and [livejournal.com profile] dionneshea from Vegas! Spiffy!!!

Tomorrow morning we're heading up to Vancouver, BC... the trip was originally planned for picking up a copy of the new Harry Potter novel (all of our Harry Potter books are Canadian editions), as well as doing a bit of grocery shopping, but now we'll also be swinging by [livejournal.com profile] shaddyr's place for a bit of filking! Huzzah! It's been ages and ages since I last had a chance to go to a filksing. I really should see about hunting down some of the local filking community... I know they're here, because this was the area where I first got into it, myself.

Congratulations on getting the weeds from the flowers.Yes it is much easier when the ground is wet.My husband and I love gardening and have several large flower beds.It seem that my part of the endeavor is to keep the grass out and he does all the planting and arranging and laying them out. This is a good thing for I do not have a green thumb.
I am from the South and don't know a lot,but what in the world is FILKING

I actually really enjoy working out in the yard, but I'm *horrible* at it. It comes from growing up living either in military housing or on farms (in the former, the landscaping was minimal and yardwork generally involved mowing and nothing more and in the latter, we rarely had much of a yard, beyond a spot of grass).

Heh. It's a term from Science Fiction Fandom... there's a good explanation of it HERE (http://home.earthlink.net/~kayshapero/filkfaq.htm), but the upshot is that it's Science Fiction and Fantasy folksinging (it's a little more complicated than that, but it's a description that covers most of the bases!).
