Had a constructive weekend, with lots of gratuitous text-cuts in order to save people from possible boredom:

On Saturday we went out bikeriding again along the Sammamish River Trail, out into a wetlands reclamation area. Very pretty, but a lot of bugs. I think it might be time to invest in some light sunglasses... we generally go riding in the evenings, so I'm not terribly concerned about avoiding the sun, but getting gnats in the eye can be very distracting! [livejournal.com profile] anirt pointed out these cool sunglasses, which would be perfect if I didn't have a humongous skull of doom. There's no way I'd be able to get away with wearing sunglasses made for kids (and why do they get all the fun stuff, anyway?)

We finally got around to taking down the heavy old drapes over the sliding glass doors downstairs and have installed Gila Fade Control Window Film, which should hopefully help protect the books a bit. [livejournal.com profile] rackham also put up a curtain rod and we'll work on getting some un-dyed cotton panel drapes up later tonight (nice and plain, and they pull out of the way really well). And I've got someone from Freecycle stopping by today to pick up the remaining film and tools. Yay! It's not going to end up cluttering the garage!

Speaking of Freecycle, I'm still so totally in love with the whole thing. We've been getting rid of more and more junk... and picking up a few things here and there along the way. We've now got a decent but old stair-stepper machine set up out in the garage that could come in handy on rainy days, and yesterday we picked up some gutter leaf guard thingies that we'll try installing later this summer.

Our foray into container gardening is going pretty well! Everything seems to be flourishing, except for one of the pepper plants (the other one, of the same variety, is doing just fine, so I don't know what happened). We've repotted that container with some basil that's just going gangbusters (it's a pesto basil, so I'm thinking of getting some more sweet basil (which is what I was growing in the house last year) to plant out on the deck as well). I think we may end of moving the cucumber plant off the deck soon and down along the edge of the house... it looks like it's going to do quite a bit of wandering.

Managed to record off all the episodes of Battlestar Galactica during the marathon last week and we picked up the DVD of the mini-series last Saturday. Now I just need to take the time and watch it all! [livejournal.com profile] queenofthorns very kindly sent me a videotape of the first six episodes awhile back, that I've utterly failed to watch. I'm hoping having them now burned to DVD will make them more convenient for viewing, but we'll have to see.

And finally, Kennewick Man has been in the news a bit here again lately, and they keep showing pictures of the 3D model they've done based on his skull. Every time I see it I become more and more convinced that there's been some sort of huge mistake... the skull can't be as old as they're claiming, because it obviously belongs to Patrick Stewart's long lost twin brother!

It is so obvious that you wonder why they haven't noticed!!

I had the same problem with a pepper plant in a pot last summer - my beans are doing much better.

Kennewick Man does indeed look like Picard after the Borg implants were removed. Ironic!

Good luck with the cucumber plant!

Why are the weekends always so busy with STUFF we have to do?Why can't there be a fun weekend.I guess we just have to TAKE one.The window film sounds like a great idea. Can you then remove it in the winter time to let the sunshine back in to warm?
Keep looking, you will find sunglasses that will fit.My husband has the same problem. They always look to small for his face.
