Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] sdwolfpup and [livejournal.com profile] shipperx and a few others I'm not remembering off the top of my head.

Rules
1. Put your playlist on shuffle.
2. Post the first lines to the first 25 songs to come up (along with these instructions).
3. Have people guess the songs and artists in comments to the post.
4. Post the answers to the ones people guessed correctly. A couple of days later, post the first two lines of the ones no one got and get people to guess again.
5. Repeat, adding the next line to the unguessed songs each time, until they're all guessed/you've posted the whole song/you've gotten bored/no-one's going to get the damn thing if you don't tell them.

I was amazed at how many songs have the title somewhere in the first line, though I guess it makes some sense (needless to say, I skipped those). Take a look and see what you can figure out... there are a few repeats of artists and some songs that are relatively obscure unless you're into a particular genre of music *cough*filk*cough*, but I figured there were enough people on my flist who share my musical tastes that someone ought to get them.

1) Johnny was bad, even as a child everybody could tell...
"Only a Lad" by Oingo Boingo -- [livejournal.com profile] eep1313

4) Look. Look John Look. See Spot Run.
"Baby Judy" by The Hawaiian Pups -- A very strange song. It used to get occasional playtime on the local Alternative station back in the late 80s/early 90s. It eventually contains the lines "Run Spot Run. Run to Pakistan. Run to India." and "Up, Up said Baby Judy."

5) I am the flaw in the teabowl, I will not dance death...
"Starship and Haiku" by Kathy Mar -- It's filk at its finest... one of those songs that's better than the book it's based on.

6) There was a woman in our town, in our town did dwell...
"Marrowbones" by Steeleye Span

7) Catch me as I fall, Say you're here and it's all over now...
"Whisper" by Evanescence

11) There's such a sad love, deep in your eyes, a kind of pale jewel...
"As the World Falls Down" by David Bowie -- [livejournal.com profile] eep1313

12) Every morning the alarm goes off and knocks me out of bed, I rush to catch the bus to get to work and bash some heads...
Nine-to-Five Barbarian by Bill Sutton -- More filk.

"Street Spirit" by Radiohead

15) With sadness in my heart, and joy in mind, I thought about the ghosts that we left behind......
"Not My Slave" by Oingo Boingo -- [livejournal.com profile] eep1313

"S-100 Bus" by Frank Hayes -- Yet more filk... this one is a definite classic, with the best chorus EVER.

17) If time itself was his demeanor / There’d be no sunlight or a glimmer / Of sunlight landin on the street / Sunsuit girls must be discreet
"Never Say Never" by Romeo Void -- [livejournal.com profile] nmissi

18) To Bombay, a traveling circus came, they brought an intelligent elephant...
"Nellie the Elephant" by Toy Dolls -- [livejournal.com profile] matt1969

19) Cold winds blow around me and I can't help but think of you
"Walking Away" by Information Society

20) Just a loudmouth Yankee I went down to Mexico. I didn’t have much time to spend, about a week or so...

"Creep" by Radiohead -- [livejournal.com profile] eep1313
