Yeah, I did it. I got a Permanent Account.
I was holding firm in my resolve (i.e. waffling about the idea, hopefully long enough for the sale to end), until I woke up this morning, staggered down to my computer, and checked my flist... and saw all of my friends falling, one by one, to the siren call of permanency.
And
rackham was a whole lot of no help. After being worn down by temptation, I called and asked how he'd feel about me taking the plunge, and his only response was to suggest which credit card I should use. There I was, still talking myself into it, listing off to him all the reasons I'd come up with why this was a good idea (they're all bunk, really... it all came down to the coolness factor of having a permanent account), and he kept saying "Go for it. Do it. You don't need to keep convincing me." Ack!
So, um, yeah... permanent account. Now I just need to miraculously develop some sort of talent for icon making, to really make it worthwhile. :-)
ETA: I'm also really pleased that the LJ folks thought ahead and gave us a way to transfer our remaining time to a friend or community. I hated the idea of just "losing" that time... but having that option made it so much easier to succumb.

Exactly! That made it all the more appealing to me, too.
