Season Finale of "Lost"

fenchurchSo, um, was anyone else ever so slightly dissatisfied with the Lost finale? I mean, it was nicely suspenseful and it finally felt like they were moving some of the plot along, but we really didn't find out anything of substance. Mysteries are all well and good, but after awhile, I for one like to be given a little bit of a solution.
Veronica Mars succeeded admirably on this score... doling out tantalizing answers throughout the season, while still building up several mysteries. Lost held out some solutions in a box and yanked them away from us while yelling "Psych!!" whenever we got too close. I'm not sure how much longer it's going to be able to keep me dangling before I give up in frustration.
As for the episode, itself... I hate to admit it, but I did a bit of fast forwarding in this one. I started in on the show late tonight, so I had the fast forward option and I took it -- during Hurley's run through the airport (and I *love* Hurley -- they made Hurley-scenes that were boring!), during the Treacherous Walk Through The Jungle With Explosives, during at least one other scene that escapes me now. It just seemed a bit like they were filling time since they didn't want to give away, well, any actual information.
I guessed that the Others were coming after Walt, just as soon as Danielle mentioned that they'd said they were coming for the boy. Mostly because I knew going into the finale that they'd probably be trying to figure out a way to give themselves wiggle room in case Malcolm David Kelley had a sudden growth spurt over the summer, since I doubt they're going to have next season take place several months after the end of this season. Or at least I hope they don't.
I was a little surprised to not see Overly!Friendly!Woman from last week (the one Jack met in the airport). I assumed she was being shown to us so we'd recognize her later. I guess there's always next season.
Am I the only one who thought that Michael was talking about Vincent during his phone call to his mom? If there's one thing I've learned about this show, it's that everything is a matter of perspective and events are rarely how they first appear. I'm going to have to go back and listen again, but I think everything Michael said makes sense if he's actually talking about the dog (especially considering how long he'd been trying to get together with his son). And he'd just barely gotten done talking to Walt about how Vincent was going to be fine in the cargo hold, so it's the sort of thing that would be fresh in his mind, and he also wouldn't want Walt to know that he wasn't sure what to do with the dog.
Count me as one who thinks Charlie may have picked up a statue not because it had drugs, but because he's Catholic. (Not saying he wasn't tempted by the drugs, but I don't think he took them.)
You know, I always thought Daniel Dae Kim was pretty good looking when he played Gavin on AtS... but now that he's let his hair grow out a bit, and it's all curly and wild? Yowza! This show is certainly not short on incredibly hot men.

All in all, an OK finale, and certainly better than the VM finale, which made me want to hurl things at the TV.

Date: 2005-05-26 09:53 pm (UTC)I agree so much. All the women are defined by their (mostly romantic) relationships to men rather than who they are as people. Shannon and Claire are emotional wrecks. Sun, my only issue is that she reinforces the women-as-defined-by-men thing. Kate is my real problem. Besides being boring, she does everything based on her "love life." Why does she go on a three year crime spree? Her boyfriend. Why does she go on these trips for water and such? She wants to show off for Jack or Sawyer. Why couldn't Locke's character have been a woman?
