fenchurch: (Star Wars)

So, I was driving down to Oregon today, on my way to Vegas to see Episode Three on opening day with some friends... and on a whim I wore my Episode One Darth Maul t-shirt. At various stops along the route (gas stations and grocery stores), I have been greeted no less than five times by people I don't know (and most of whom were working at the time) not with "Hello" or "Can I help you"... no, they start straight out with "Three more days!!!"

The first time it happened, I actually had to pause for a moment to figure out what in the world the guy was talking about. I swear, the world is full of Star Wars geeks who are awaiting Thursday with more anticipation than Christmas.

I think we need to have a national holiday declared. It's not like anyone's going to work anyway!

I have my ticket tucked into my purse for the 6:15 PM show on Thursday! I'm leaving work early, no matter what anyone says. (Hmm. Vegas is only a six-hour drive from here.... *g*)

Current music: "Blackleg Miner" -- Steeleye Span

Hey - another person who still has Steeleye Span! I must update my tapes to CD as I can only listen to them in the car - and they are now almost unlistenable!

When I was Very Young I saw them in concert and Maddy Prior came up and danced with us in the aisle of the balcony - my friends and I were the only people in the balcony dancing - everyone else up there was too staid! You see - I've never forgotten!

The culture does have the feel of the ANH days, doesn't it? It's hard to describe, but it's out there.

Lucky!!! I got to see them about eight years or so ago, on their reunion tour. They played at a night club in Seattle that wound up being packed to the gills (I think whoever was arranging their venues may have underestimated their appeal just a tad). It was one of my most favorite concerts ever, simply because we were sitting about six feet from the stage... and of course they sounded wonderful!

I believe most of their stuff is out on CD now, though I still have my vinyl copies stored away somewhere. One of these days I may have to see about letting them go, but there's just something about those big, wide album covers that I love.

Heh! Well, this was all through Washington state, as well as Eastern Oregon. I actually had people telling me "May the Force be with you" (semi-seriously) by way of farewell. It was quite a surreal experience actually, but made me even more excited about going to see the movie. It's not just a film, it's a cultural experience!hb
