Exhausted in Eugene

fenchurchI'd sort of been hoping to make it home really late tonight, but I wound up not getting to Eugene until around 11:00pm... which means there's still another 6-7 hours of driving left. Looks like I won't be getting home until tomorrow afternoon, because I'm absolutely exhausted and expect I'll sleep quite soundly through the night.
My mom called while I was on the road. Yeah, I know, I'm supposed to be calling *her* on Mother's Day, but she knew I was traveling and was about to head out to their property up on the mountain, where she has no telephone coverage. I did remember to get a present sent out to her early enough for it to arrive before today, and she was really happy with it! I got her the movie "They Live" (which she hadn't even known was out on DVD). It's based on a classic science fiction short story by Ray Faraday Nelson and also happens to star one of her favorite wrestlers (Rowdy Roddy Piper). Do I know my mom or what?
The roads were horrible... it started raining just outside Sacramento, and became a torrential downpour just outside Redding, which turned into a torrential downpour with a LOT of hail by the time I got up near Shasta... and back to a simple torrential downpour until I got to about Grant's Pass, OR. There was standing water on the road and points when I could barely see in front of the car. At times, I was going around 25mph on the freeway (as was everyone else).
I hate white-knuckle driving... all the exhaustion and sore muscles of running a marathon, but without the health benefits or the nifty free t-shirt.
