Yes, I'm still at home and yes, I'm still planning to be down in Sacramento to see "Serenity" on Thursday. By noon it was becoming obvious I wasn't getting out of here anytime soon, so I'd already started looking at the idea of leaving later and either staying with my step-sister in Portland tonight (only a three hour drive away, then about nine the next day), getting to Eugene incredibly late tonight, or just driving all day tomorrow, straight down to Sacramento. Looks like it's going to be the latter (with a break for a possible nap in Eugene).

I took the car over to our usual car wash, since I always prefer starting trips with a clean slate, so to speak... and while they don't actually detail the interior, they do a pretty decent job of spiffing it up. It went through the car wash thingy, came out and they worked on it out in the lot, then signaled they were done. About this point I realized something didn't look quite right... got a little closer and it hit me: the rear wiper was gone. Not just the wiper part... the *arm*. Snapped off right toward the base.

So, the manager came out... was not too happy, because this was quite obviously the car wash's fault. He had me fill out a form, gave me a card and sent me out to the local Hyundai dealer to get the arm replaced. Fortunately, the Hyundai dealership (the one where we bought my car in the first place) was not too far away... but we hit a snag. They didn't have the part in stock. "No one ever needs a new wiper arm!" the parts manager exclaimed. He started going through the inventories of other local dealers with no luck... then he started looking at the dealers along my route to Sacramento. No dice. He thought he'd found one for me at one point, until I explained that Redlands is down near San Bernadino and not anywhere near Sacramento. :-p

We were starting to think we'd have to order one in, which would mean I'd have to drive the car through potential rainstorms with nothing to clear the rear window... not fun. About this time, some wheels began to click in my head, but before I could say anything, the same ones apparently ground around in the parts manager's brain, as well... he started comparing specs and sure enough, the current Santa Fes use the same rear wiper part as mine.

He checked with me first, since this wouldn't, technically, be new -- it had likely been used during test drives -- but they'd put a new blade on it and we called it good. They installed it for me and I headed back to the car wash where they a) were very surprised I was able to get it fixed that quickly and b) reimbursed me for the $82 it cost for a new wiper arm (ouch!).

By the time I got back home, it was so close to time for Veronica Mars that I decided it was worth just sticking around.

I was spoiled for a few things in this episode, though I'd guessed most of them awhile ago anyway, so it wasn't a huge deal (i.e. they weren't anything that would have surprised me if I'd gone into the episode cold). But, coincidentally enough, there were a few things that I hadn't been spoiled for and hadn't guessed that absolutely floored me... like the fact that Logan drugged Duncan's drink. Whoa. Not a cool thing to do, at all, though in his screwed up brain, it probably made a lot of sense. I had been expecting Duncan to have been drunk that night, but not drugged. I was also quite shocked to find out that Duncan was aware that Veronica was/might be his sister.

Oh, and for another surprise: Beaver, who turned out to be a half-way decent kid... even if he shouldn't have left her lying there on the bed. He was obviously quite sickened by his brother's actions and suggestions and by what they were doing to her. Good for him.

The episode itself was almost dizzying with everything they managed to cram in... but what it all boiled down to, in the end, was that no one was really, fully responsible for what happened to Veronica that night. And yet, in a larger sense, every one of the 09ers who were there were responsible. They all did or didn't do something that led to what could arguably be the worst experience of her life, even if it didn't wind up being rape, technically. And how horrible to find out that there's no one for her to seek vengeance on for the events of that night... Even Madison, who is an A-class bitch, didn't do anything intentionally except spit in Veronica's drink (okay, and paint her car, but that was later). The person closest to bearing the responsibility would be Madison's boyfriend, but even that wasn't aimed specifically at Veronica.

Now, are Duncan and Veronica really brother and sister? Before the episode aired, I thought the answer was yes. I figured that Duncan was the one who'd had sex with her that night and, for dramatic purposes, it would fit to find out later that they were half-siblings. But now we know that he knew, which changes the dramatic dynamics... it would make more sense, now, to find out that they *aren't* brother and sister. The possibility is certainly there, since Lianne doesn't even know for sure, but from a storytelling perspective, it now lacks a bit of punch. Plus, if she's not his sister, this opens up some interesting romantic entanglement possibilities for next season... since they both obviously still have feelings for one another and are still attracted to each other. (Yes, I do believe we may be headed for another blasted triangle next year.)

I've already mentioned this in replying to several other peoples' LJs, but I don't think Logan knew the camera was above the bed in the guesthouse... I certainly don't think he put it there. My guesses are that it was installed either by Lynn (to film Aaron in his infidelities) or, more likely, it was installed by Aaron to film his trysts for later viewing. And yeah, I'm in the crowd who thinks it likely Aaron killed Lilly, though I'm not rock solid positive.

Is it next Tuesday yet?

Yeah, that's exactly what I was considering picking up, as the minutes went by and it looked like we weren't going to find a new wiper.

Have a blast watching Serenity! Trying not to think about it, myself. ::sniff::

Thanks! And I'm definitely planning on posting a non-spoilery review after I see it!
