An ad just played on the radio for a Christmas lights display/extravaganza up north of Seattle at a Christian Camp/Conference Center. I honestly thought it was a parody, until I checked out the website... because, yes, they're putting on that festive holiday play "The Pirates of Christmas" (you have to scroll down to the bottom of the page). Um...

Description from their webpage:
"Arrrrr" ye ready for a grand buccaneer adventure? Be good mateys, and make your way to Stage Too! for a sixty minute musical romp of slapstick gags and mayhem . . . or would you rather walk the plank?!

A fine sense of humor is recommended. Black patches and peg legs are optional.

Yes, I know the first thing I think about when I think "Christmas" are pirates, mayhem and walking the plank.

I'm seriously tempted to go, just because the idea is so... jarring and weird.

It wouldn't even cause a raised eyebrow in the British Isles. Our tradition of Pantomime means that almost anything can occur in a seasonal theatrical production. Even Pirates.

"Aar, Jim lad. Has ye bin a good cabin boy? Has ye left out a tot o' rum for your old matey Cap'n Santa Claus, and a cracker for the parrots? Then there'll be a stocking full of doubloons and pieces of eight for ye, aar, me hearty."

"I saw Mommy keelhauling Santa Claus
Underneath the mistletoe last night ..."
