City park farm animals
Jul. 2nd, 2014 10:31 pmThis afternoon as I was driving home from my piano lesson, I realized I still hadn't gone walking yet... and while it wasn't nearly as hot as yesterday (okay, I know that 86F isn't exactly super-hot, but it's definitely hotter than we're used to around here), it was still over 80 and, well, I'm not exactly used to exercising in those sort of temperatures. So, I'd been thinking of maybe walking around Redmond Ridge until I saw the sign for Farrel-McWhirter Park and decided to take a detour... lots of trails there out through the woods, meaning most of the walk would be in the shade!
Farrel-McWhirter is part of the Redmond City Parks Department and is a small working farm... designed as a showcase for schoolgroups and the like. The park itself is 68 acres and has some wonderful hiking trails through the surrounding woods, but the farm gives kids a chance to get a bit of a glimpse into farm life. In the past they've had horses, cows, goats and chickens... although today I only saw the goats out and about.
