Clever ideas from the internet

fenchurchFrom time to time, another one of those "Life Hacks" type lists will show up on my flist or over on Facebook and I always go look through them. Sometimes I find things I've already been doing, often there are things that are, well, kind of stupid... but every once in awhile, there are ideas that are both simple and amazingly clever.
This one showed up in a list about a week ago and I remember spotting it, thinking "oh, that's clever!" and moving on.rackham, on the other hand, decided to actually give it a try... and it worked *really* well. The idea is to use strong magnets to find the nails in studs in the walls. The magnets will then stick to the metal there and you can keep track of where studs are for hanging photos or mounting shelves or anchoring bookcases. And I gotta say, it works like a charm!
The square things on the wall are some strong fridge magnetstaradaktyl gave me several years ago... and they worked perfectly for this, making it so much easier to finally get those bookcases in place.
We've started doing a lot more work this week on getting things out of boxes... and I could kick myself for taking so long to do it, because in large part it's been incredibly easy. Of course, it really helps that we've gotten a lot more storage in place recently so stuff finally has a place to *go*. Getting those shelves up in the office means a whole bunch of boxes filled with CDs, DVDs and CD-ROMs can now be emptied and cleared out of the hallway. It feels so incredibly good to be making progress, especially after all this time.
