Goals for 2014
Jan. 17th, 2014 07:29 pmI think I've mentioned it before, but I don't do New Year's Resolutions... I think they're a little too nebulous for the start of the year and prefer to save them for my birthday. Instead, I do goals (what's the the difference? At least to my mind, it's this... Resolution: I'm going to try to be a better person. Goal: I'm going to volunteer somewhere once a month).
First, I should probably take a look at how I did with last year's goals... and to get this off to a bad start, I didn't have a clue what they were until I figured out when I'd posted them last year and read the entry.
Okay, so maybe it's not as horrible as I thought. First was the 25 book thing. I think I did 13, which is cringeworthy, but way better than the year before. Next up, the exercise bit... and yeah, I think I mostly made that (I slacked off a bit during the big push to sell the house, but have picked it back up). Did not even come remotely close with the Inkle loom. I think I may know where the loom is... maybe. Post a photo a day... yeah, that fizzled out pretty quickly too. Helping with the remodel went really well! To the point where the house sold in four days with multiple offers and we're living in an amazing new house! I've pretty much managed the one about calling my family members at least once a month (nothing like losing a few of them to make you want to keep in touch with the rest).
So, onward to this year's goals! (Complete with numbers this time.)
1) Post a photo a day (yeah, there are going to be some repeat goals... I figure if I couldn't get them last year, maybe I can make it work this year).
2) Borrowed directly from last year: Finally learn to use the Inkle Loom.
3) Do the equivalent of walking 40 minutes three times a week. I figured it was time to bump things up a bit (and change the wording, since 20 minutes on the cross-training elliptical is about the same workout as 40 minutes of walking, plus this way I can maybe just add in one more day at 30 minutes and call it good).
4) Also from last year with an added twist I'm borrowing from
brutti_ma_buoni: Read at least one book from my Teetering Pile every month. I'd like to read more than that, but considering my Teetering Pile is a bookcase I'm using as a nightstand that is currently so stuffed with books that I've started piling them on another nearby bookcase, I'm thinking some direct action is required.
5) Use everything from our produce delivery each week. I've gotten a pretty good start on this one already and have found that we're eating MUCH better because of it. Plus, it forces me to occasionally be creative with cooking. Even better, I've come up with a system that seems to be working so far (just a few weeks in). We have two produce drawers in our fridge and I've started using one for this week's delivery and the other for anything leftover from before. It's made it very easy to know what needs to be used first and I've been doing a great job of it for the past few weeks!
6) Start and finish one knitting project. I just relearned the basics and I think if I don't set at least this minimal goal, I'll end up forgetting again (this time without the excuse of a nasty car accident to fall back on).
7) Donate blood four times. I've been doing three a year up until now... usually donating at Origins Game Faire in June and then Dragon*Con in September and once more here at home. I need to do the calculations so I space donations out correctly so I can go four times.
8) Print a copy of this list and post it somewhere I can see it and remember all of these things. Because I really had completely forgotten what goals I'd chosen last year.
And I think that's it! Not a lot, but I also don't think these things need to be overwhelming (and with my track record, it's probably a good idea not to pile too much stuff on).
