Palm tree in winter fog
Jan. 16th, 2014 04:11 pmOne thing that's both a negative and a positive about the new house is that it's right on the edge of a river valley... meaning that during the winter, apparently, we get a lot of fog. And today is one of those days where it just isn't going away (and has, in fact, gotten thicker as the day has progressed). Thankfully, there are so many windows in this house that even with the fog, we're getting a decent amount of light... and it really does make things seem almost magical outside.
I've posted photos of it before, but one of the things that absolutely delighted me about this house was the palm tree. There were originally four of them, but three died off before we bought the house and only their trunks remain (we now realize that they likely never grew past the height they were when they were planted and that it's most likely due to a lack of drainage where they're located), which we're probably going to see about removing sometime this year. We discovered that the company where the previous homeowners likely purchased the trees also sells cold hardy hibiscus bushes! Between those and the palm (even if it isn't the sort we had there), I should have some good reminders of my childhood on Guam before we're done!
I just love the look of it with the huge leafless fog-shrouded trees in the background...
