I started it up again last week, and managed to get off to a good start this week -- although I think things would be easier if I didn't take the winter and most of the spring off from it. I think my biggest problem is that it never ends... I mean, it's satisfying to get weeds cleared away and to mow, because you can see the results pretty much instantly, but the next week, it's all back again.

So, for now I'm concentrating on getting the front yard back in order. It's not nearly as bad as it was last year, so I guess doing this stuff does have some long term effects... but I'm dreading the back yard again now. Like the front, it's not the jungle it was last year. Not nearly as many plain old weeds to take care of -- though that stupid plant at the corner of the house is BACK! I swear, it's like rhubarb or something. We seriously dug out the roots last year and it looks nice and healthy this year. Grr.

The blackberries are starting to make incursions into the yard again, but thankfully they're nowhere near as bad as last year. I can still see the playhouse (and, in fact, there's only one tendril going over the roof), but the playhouse "yard" is a blackberry mini-forest. We've got a friend who does landscaping and blackberry removal, and I think we'll probably just hire him to come out and help rid our property of The Menace. Then I can start in on the rest of the "back forty."

When we first moved into the house, it was wild down there, but still just accessible enough that I was able to walk around a bit... I wouldn't mind getting it back to that point and getting to a point where we can start removing some of the junk. The previous owners tossed large items there instead of taking things to the dump, which means that buried underneath a bunch of vegetation is the old carpeting, rolled up and tossed there probably a year or so before we bought the house (judging by the plant life the last time I saw it).

All in all, it looks like it'll be a good project this year, and good exercise. I'm limiting myself to half an hour a day to start, so I don't over-do it like I did last year.
