On the 18th, I was still in Utah but the Symposium was over, so I headed up north hoping to visit my aunt. I wasn't able to reach her by phone, so I didn't get to see her... and found out later that her phone wasn't working. :-(

But, I did do a bit of Geocaching, including going after my very first "audio cache" (although I didn't manage to get the final, since it was buried under about two feet of snow). It really was just a fun twist on a multi-cache. Found stage one pretty easily (after tromping across a field through nearly two feet of snow in wholly inappropriate shoes), and inside was this:

It was very simply constructed but rather cleverly done, with a cheap speaker on top and the whole thing held together with a few layers of electrical tape. I pushed the red button on the other side and it played a recording of a woman's voice listing the coordinates for the next stage with a hint on how to find it. The next stage had a similar device, giving the coordinates for the final along with a hint. There was some serious snow on the ground for both of those and I hadn't brought my winter/snow shoes with me on this jaunt... but I made it out to the stages anyway. The final, though, was on a trail that no one had used since the snow had hit... a bit over two feet of snow with a layer of crusty ice on top. I actually made it down to GZ (Ground Zero), but my toes were started to freeze and even though I could see where the cache had to be there was just no way to safely reach it in those conditions. Very disappointing! I'll be back this summer, I hope, and will get it then. On the bright side, slogging through all that snow was an incredible workout!

On the 19th, I flew home! Snapped a shot of everything I was carrying onto the plane with me... what more could I need? Winter coat, water bottle, laptop bag with all my electronics and the travel pillow my aunt made me for Christmas (this was its inaugural trip and it's absolutely perfect!).

While I was gone, [personal profile] rackham had emptied out our bedroom and even disassembled the bed and then painted the room... but while taking the bed apart, he discovered that part of the platform had broken. After a bit of calling around, it was determined to still be under warranty... and the replacement parts arrived the day after I got home. And apparently, the delivery guy wanted to make sure I didn't miss the boxes.

Thankfully, they weren't TOO heavy and I was actually able to reach the door!

On the 21st, my favorite food truck was at Microsoft again, so I headed down there for lunch.

Sadly, no pork adobo or chicken kelaguen that day, but I did have some very yummy vegie pancit, lemongrass chicken lumpia and ginger pork lumpia. Mmmm... the taste of childhood!

The 22nd was incredibly blustery, so I decided to try going after a particularly tough Geocache at Juanita Beach (assuming there would be fewer people around to see me). I searched for a bit, but the wind made it really difficult... freezing cold with water getting sprayed up in my face from the waves. I did snap this photo though of some rather intrepid kite surfers out on the lake.

I really wish I'd had a better camera than my cellphone, but if you look closely, you can see that there were three of them out there. And yes, this is a lake... it's Lake Washington, which is normally pretty placid, but the wind was incredible that day.
