Random urban goat is random
Jan. 6th, 2013 09:24 pmThis morning we ran up to Brier, a Seattle suburb to the north of us, to find a Geocache for the day... drawn by the promising name "T-Rex in Brier." Sadly, the "T-Rex" that used to be there has apparently been missing for quite some time. We found the cache quickly and took a quick look around the park (in case the T-Rex was still around somewhere and we were just missing it) when we noticed something a bit odd at the far side. After walking a bit closer we realized that yes, we really were seeing what we thought we were seeing. A goat. On the roof of a tiny house.

It's hard to tell from this picture, but this really is in the suburbs, right next to a small city park... it looks like the people who own the yellow house probably also own the lot next to theirs that they use for their goats. There were actually two... the second one came out from behind the house after we got close and seemed very happy that we were talking to her. Both of them came up to the fence and called to us after we left. I kinda felt bad for getting their hopes up (since I suspect they thought we might feed them treats).
I'm wondering if they're kept for milk, which wouldn't surprise me in the least... A group of neighbors on the next street over from where we live were discussing buying a goat together a few years ago, with the idea that they'd move it from yard to yard to keep the grass clipped and the blackberries under control and then also get get fresh goat milk. I'm always just a bit surprised by the farm animals that can be spotted in the suburbs here.
