Happy New Year!!!
Jan. 1st, 2013 10:00 pmStill dealing with the remnants of a headcold I've had for the past few weeks (although, thankfully, I beat the sinus infection a week or so ago), but feeling MUCH better now. In fact, I felt well enough yesterday that we went to a New Year's Eve party at some friends' house (
rackham wasn't sure if he'd be up to it at one point, because he whacked his head pretty hard by standing up into a tree branch while we were Geocaching yesterday... hard enough to draw blood and leave a nice lump). Fun party, though! There were several other couples we also knew as well as several children (who were all friends and also all very good relating to adults, so they had fun too).
Our hosts are gluten-free (they're one of the main reasons I've tried to collect a number of good GF recipes for things over the years), as well as one other family who was there... who were also cow-milk free just like me, so we had a wide variety of tasty treats I could actually eat! We played several rounds of Telestrations, which was a big hit, chatted and watched the countdown coverage live from the Space Needle. All in all, a really fun night!
I managed to remember to get some black-eyed peas soaking last night before collapsing, so I was able to get them in the crockpot this morning along with some thick cut bacon and the rest of the fixings (I used kale instead of collards), which meant we got to have Hoppin' John for dinner tonight! I'd never had the stuff before, much less tried making it, but I think it turned out pretty well.

At midnight last night, I found myself thinking "Good Riddance to 2012" until it hit me that it had actually been a pretty good year until the last two months. I'm trying to work on remembering those ten good months a bit more and not let the last couple of months overwhelm me.
Hope everyone had a fun New Year's!!!
