Hey, look! A bandwagon!
Apr. 10th, 2012 11:24 pmStolen from practically everyone... I put it behind the cut, because I got really wordy.
1. Who was your FIRST prom date?
My best friend at the time, Adam, who is gay... although back then he was still wrestling with the idea. It was a combined Junior/Senior prom (he was a Junior, I was a Senior) and going together, we got to have fun and just enjoy ourselves.
2. Do you still talk to your FIRST love?
Every day. I married him.
3. What was your FIRST alcoholic drink?
First and only was when I was only 20 and had gone on a short vacation with my mom, step-dad and 8-year-old step-sister. We'd gone to a restaurant and I ordered a virgin pina colada... when it came it had an orange twist on top, so while I thought it tasted oddly of bitter oranges, I didn't immediately think there was anything wrong with it, just different. I mentioned it tasted funny, so my step-sister had a few sips and had to agree. I was still drinking it a little at a time, trying to decide if I even liked it with the "orange syrup" in it, when my mom finally took a sip... and then handed it to my step-dad who took one sip and said "That has rum in it!" So, first and only time was completely by accident and I didn't even get a buzz off of it.
4. What was your FIRST job?
Aside from the occasional babysitting and mowing jobs, it was working at a roadside produce stand when I was 14. It was good experience, earned me a nice bit of extra money to spend at SF&F conventions and taught me a lot about how to choose produce!
5. What was your FIRST car?
A 1970 Maverick. My dad bartered it from a friend when I was 15. It was yellow, with a black vinyl roof that was peeling back, so I always told people it had a receding hairline. I did all the maintenance and repairs on that car and learned a whole lot about how cars work. All in all, it was actually a really good first car.
6. Who was the FIRST person to text you today?
Nobody texted me today. Usually it's my mom.
8. Who was your FIRST grade teacher, tell us about them?
I had four of them, because we moved that year. My first one was Mrs. Ransovic in South Dakota... I was the only one in the class who could pronounce her name, everyone else called her Mrs. R (I'm not sure why, it wasn't that hard). Second first grade teacher was a little old lady at a school in Iona, ID that was in the old church building where my parents had gotten married (no joke!). We ate lunch in the room where they'd had their wedding ceremony. Her family owned a farm with cows and horses, but I don't remember her name anymore. Third first grade teacher was at a school in the village of Dededo on Guam and I was only there for a few months before we moved on base and I got my final first grade teacher. Sadly, I don't remember much about either of them.
9. Where did you go on your FIRST airplane ride?
From Hawaii to the Mainland when I was about seven months old.
10. Who was your FIRST best friend & do you still talk?
Hmmm... probably Sandy Jasso who lived across the courtyard from us at Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota when I was three. I lost track of her after we moved to Guam and have had no luck trying to find her now on Facebook (yeah, I've looked). Apparently, Sandy is a very popular first name for the Jasso family. She was great, though, and I loved her family! To this day, I still like to put mustard on my refried beans, because that's the way she ate them (although I've never had any as good as the ones her mother made... she also made the BEST tamales).
11. Where was your FIRST sleep over?
Honestly, I have no idea.
13. Whose wedding were you in the FIRST time?
As a participant? My dad's second marriage. They did a great big wedding and her daughter and I were bridesmaids.
14. What was the FIRST thing you did this morning?
Checked my email. I do that before I even get out of bed. What can I say? I'm an addict.
15. What was the FIRST concert you ever went to?
The Beach Boys, of all things. They did a reunion tour when I was in college and played at my university... I grew up on their music, so of course I went!
16. FIRST tattoo?
Don't have one, despite my mom nagging me for years to get one.
17. FIRST piercing?
Got my ears pierced for my ninth birthday. We actually drove into Hagåtña to the Ben Franklin building (it was HUGE! At a whopping seven stories, it was the tallest building on the island at the time) and the building owner's wife pierced my ears (she ran a small jewelry store there and it was one of the few places on the island that did ear piercing).
18. FIRST foreign country you went to?
Canada! Unless you count Saipan, but probably not... it's a Trust Territory and so is, at least, affiliated with the US.
19. FIRST movie you remember seeing?
In the theater? Offhand I'd say "Lady and the Tramp" when I was three. I know I saw movies before then, but I couldn't pin down a specific title. But my parents took me to see that movie at the base theater and then we went out to get a puppy. I stood outside the box they were in and called "Here, Lady! Here, Lady!" and one puppy crawled out to me... and turned out to be the only female in the litter. And yeah, we named her Lady.
20. When was your FIRST detention?
Never had detention. I was one of the "good" kids.
22. Who was your FIRST roommate?
Her name was Nancilyn Meyers and she ended up going home after just a week or so (her mother became ill... cancer I think). I never heard from her again.
23. If you had one wish. What would it be?
Oof. I know it's not a trick question, but it still feels like one. I keep overthinking it, as if there's some sort of catch in it. Funny.
24. What is something you would learn if you had the chance?
I can think of a lot of things, but for the most part, if I want to learn something, I find a way to learn it. So, if we change it to something I would learn if I had the chance and the guts and the physical capabilities: how to fly a plane. I'm too chicken to take flying lessons though, and my eyesight is weird enough that it's probably not a good idea, anyway.
25. Did you marry the FIRST person to ask for your hand in marriage?
Yep.
26. What was the first sport that you were involved in?
Wasn't ever involved in a sport. No, wait... technically, swordfighting is a sport! I used to swordfight back in my 20s... not fencing, but swordfighting (using boffers, aka padded swords). My preferred style was Florentine... fighting with two shortswords, one in each hand (you generally use one for striking and one for blocking, but being ambidextrous, I could easily switch between the two). It was a lot of fun and if my shoulders weren't such a mess, I'd love to start doing it again.
27. What were the first lessons you ever took?
Gymnastics and ballet when I was four. I was horribly uncoordinated and my mom hoped that gymnastics and ballet would help (and I think they actually did, even though I was still awful at both of them).
28. What is the first thing you do when you get home?
Get headbumped by my cat, Numfar.
29. Who do you think will be the next person to post this?
No clue.
