This and that.
Jan. 10th, 2012 08:37 pmHad a really fun weekend down in Long Beach, WA with
rackham... even though we completely forgot to take kites with us (this just means we'll have to plan another trip later this year). Saturday there was a Geocaching event in Long Beach called a Cache Machine. Basically, the guy who organized it had gone through and found a bunch of relatively easy caches in the area and created a route between them to maximize the number of caches that could be found in the least amount of time. In this case, 70 caches... that should be doable between 7:15am and 5:00pm. Not that we got up that early... we finally got out the door around 9:00, but we still managed 39 caches (complete with a very nice lunch stop at my favorite restaurant, 42nd Street Cafe). (I indulged in my favorite thing they serve, Brandied Cream of Tomato, Dill and Bleu Cheese Soup, even though I knew I'd have a bad reaction to the dairy... I really need to figure out how to make it with goat cheese.)
Usually, when we go to Long Beach, we stay at the Inn at Discovery Coast, a very nice B&B located right on the beach... but last month, right after the final route was announce for the Cache Machine, Groupon popped up with a deal for a new hotel, the Adrift. Turns out, the folks who remodeled and ran the B&B had bought the run-down, grungy hotel next door and remodeled it as well. We had a fantastic stay... although I think I still prefer the B&B!
Oh! And I wanted to take a page from
honorh's LJ and keep a bit of a Workout Diary here... so, in accordance with my goals for this year, here's a list of my workouts from last week!
Monday - 65 minutes walking/hiking
Tuesday - 10 minutes walking
Wednesday - 30 minutes walking
Thursday - 10 minutes walking
Friday - 30 minutes walking
Saturday - 60 minutes walking
Sunday - 45 minutes walking
As I thought, it's turning out to not be all that difficult to get things going. The biggest problem was that, with all the traveling I was doing, I'd gotten a bit lax about actually getting out and doing it for real (and not just saying "Oh, I'm sure I walked 30 minutes today"). I've found that I do a lot better if I can keep a consistent exercise going for at least 20 minutes. The two days I went walking for ten minutes were an effort to do at least something every day... but I managed to surpass my goal of 30 minutes, five days a week. Yay! Now to keep it up!
