A huge loss
Nov. 15th, 2010 10:42 pmAs most of you have probably already heard,
ww1614 got word this morning that
jerrymcl89 had passed away suddenly last Friday. To say this is a shock would be an understatement... All day I've been having a really hard time wrapping my mind around the idea that he's not there anymore. I think part of the problem is inherent in online friendships... where you may not hear from someone every day or even every week, but in the back of your mind you always know they're out there and are likely to pop up with a comment at any moment.
I figured out this evening that I've known him for at least 10 years. We both used to hang out on some of the same BtVS boards and forums back in the day (and, IIRC, we'd actually "bumped into" each other from time to time online before that in X-Files fandom) and we both migrated early over to Bloody Awful Poet Society and then to BtVS-TabulaRasa. Back during BtVS seasons 5 and 6, we were part of the die-hard group of people who chatted online at least twice weekly about the show (sometimes he'd even drop by the Wildfeed chat on Sundays). I actually had the pleasure of meeting Jerry in person at least three times that I can think of and he was just as nice, smart and witty as he was online.
For those who might not have seen it, his obituary is here.
So, as I said, I'm still reeling a bit in shock from the news... and so thankful to Wendy for passing the information on to the rest of us and for having the presence of mind to get some flowers sent in time for the wake and funeral service.
