fenchurch: (Cake is a Lie)
I've got a bit of catching up to do... I ended up not really having time to do much posting over the last week while I was in Kentucky and Ohio, I'm afraid.

My flight home got in a bit before 6:00 last night. [personal profile] rackham picked me up at the airport and we stopped by PCC Natural Market on the way home to grab some dinner. I then struggled mightily to stay awake, hoping to make it to at least 10:00, but around 8:00 I ended up laying down in bed to read for a bit while watching "Phineas and Ferb" on Netflix. Yeah. Rackham came in a few minutes later to find me completely zonked with the remote control and my smartphone next to me on the bed. I woke up at 3:00 and decided that was NOT happening on my birthday... managed to fall back to sleep and slept in until almost 8:30! O.o Twelve hours of sleep!!! Apparently I needed it, because I felt great when I got up.

The biggest thing I did today was go on a hike with Rackham after he got off work, finding five Geocaches along the way (including a puzzle I apparently solved quite awhile ago... long enough that I'd forgotten I'd done it), followed by eating WAAAY too much sushi (and kimchi and shu mai and crab legs) at Haiku in Redmond Town Center. Oh, and Rackham gave me some little TARDIS key earrings to match the necklace I've had since I was 15... plus a nifty light-up planet Mars to hang on the wall!

Then we headed home and watched "The LEGO Movie" for the first time, down in the theater room. Wow! That was way more meta than I was expecting!! But definitely a lot of fun. Although now I can't seem to get that blasted song out of my head.

We came back upstairs to hear some intermittent chirping... like a smoke detector had a low battery. So, we both wandered from smoke detector to smoke detector, pausing to wait for the next chirp, finally ending up in the laundry room where we have no smoke detector. By this point, yeah, it was getting a bit weird. So, we waited and the chirp came from right outside the door... in the garbage can. Turns out Rackham had replaced all the old, yellowed smoke detectors in the basement with new ones while I was gone and they'd ended up in the trash upstairs... and he'd apparently missed pulling the batteries out of one. But wow, did that lend some nice confusion to the evening (and I nearly hurt myself laughing when we figured it out).

All in all, a good and fun day that was also nicely low-key... something I'm really coming to appreciate.
