Helicopter fly-by
Jun. 9th, 2014 09:04 amI meant to post about this yesterday, but I was sort of spamming my flist with photos, so I figured I'd hold off. We live out in a rural area these days, but moved here from the suburbs... in particular, from a place that was just down the hill from a major hospital, which meant from time to time we'd have low flying helicopters buzzing by our place either on the way to or from the hospital.
So yesterday morning was more than a bit disconcerting when I woke up at 6:30am to what sounded like a helicopter landing on the roof! I hopped out of bed and ran to the window, just in time to see a helicopter following the road in front of our house, flying REALLY low (as in, if they hadn't been following the road, they would have been in serious danger of brushing the tops of the trees).
I was still blinking the sleep from my eyes, but hopped on my computer to ask on our neighborhood's Facebook community board if anyone knew what that was about... and then tried (and mostly failed) to fall back to sleep.
rackham, of course, slept through the whole thing.
As the day wore on, I hadn't received any replies about it in my inbox and I started to wonder... had a I dreamt it? It just seemed so improbable. And with no one else apparently having seen it (and believe me, it would have been hard to miss), maybe I'd dreamt it and hadn't quite woken up when I went to check the window (with my history, this is within the realm of possibilities). I'd just about convinced myself of that when I happened upon a conversation thread on the nearby town's community board... talking about a helicopter fly-by the night before, but with a few people mentioning the fly-by this morning along our road (including referencing the conversation on our neighborhood board). I headed back over to the board and, sure enough, LOTS of people were woken up by the helicopter... I just wasn't getting reply notifications for some reason! We still have no idea what was going on, but I did feel a rather large sense of relief that it hadn't just been a figment of my imagination.
