fenchurch: (Spiffy!)
Wednesdays are probably my favorite day of the week. That's the day I head back over to my old neighborhood for piano lessons. I started taking them about nine years ago, but that time has been massively interrupted by various things: a nasty car accident within the first year that left me unable to play for quite awhile and then, just as I was getting back into the swing of things, surgery on my shoulder because of the accident that made it impossible to play again (followed by some nerve damage that meant I had to retrain my left hand how to play), and not long after getting going again, my teacher moved to Germany for three years! But I'm back at it again and, lately, finally feeling like I'm making some real progress. It's amazing how big an impact remembering to practice every day can have!

One of the things I love about going to my piano teacher's house though, is that the flowers always make it so bright and cheery. )

One of the other things I do when I'm over that way, is stop by [profile] taradaktyl's house to pick up our weekly produce delivery. The company we get our weekly organic produce delivery from sadly does not deliver to our new neighborhood (although, interestingly, we actually now live closer to the farm than we used to), but Taradaktyl was nice enough to let her place serve as a drop-off for us. And, of course, I often take the opportunity of stopping by to indulge in some dog-walking time!

We've finally given up on trying to keep Numfar off the top of the cabinets in the kitchen... at least on the side of the room with the fridge (she hops on the counter, then the fridge and finally up to the top of the upper cabinets), although we seem to have hit upon an effective method for keeping her from hopping the four feet across to the top of the cabinets on the other side of the room... we put something right on the edge on that side. I even got to watch her consider the jump right after we did it, examining things from her high perch on the allowed side of the room and finally deciding it wouldn't work and backing down. For the time being, we've got some old platters up there, but I think we'll eventually find something a bit more decorative to block that space.

Anyway, on Friday I managed to get a photo of her in one of her most favorite spots... sitting high above everyone else, staring down at me sitting at my computer. )

I considered waiting to post today's photo tomorrow, but finally decided there's no real reason to hold off. Today I had to run down south to pick up something from a friend and so I started trying to think of other things I could do while I was down that way. All morning I had this nagging sense that there was something I wanted to get at Ikea the next time I was there... but nothing came to mind. Thankfully, when I went to get in my car, I spotted the big bag of styrofoam we had sitting on the floor in the garage and the lightbulb went off in my brain. So I went back in to scour the house, found a few more stray pieces of styrofoam to add to what we'd already gathered and tossed it all in the back of the car.

Styrofoam-B-Gone! )
