Jun. 1st, 2013 12:49 pmAs I mentioned, I own a copy of the album I was talking about yesterday (Leonard Nimoy reading two Heinlein short stories) and this morning while mowing the lawn, I suddenly remembered that I'd actually purchased the "box set" of the Caedmon SF&F series (yes, they did actually used to do boxed sets of record albums), all of which had artwork by Frank Kelly Freas as I recall (I can't check, because they're currently packed for the move). I know there was a recording of "Mimsy Were the Borogoves" by Lewis Padgett (aka the married team of C.L. Moore and Henry Kuttner) read by William Shatner and at least one story by Asimov. In fact, it seems like all the stories were read by either Shatner or Nimoy, come to think of it.
Ah, found a listing for the boxed set here. We really need to work on digitizing the other stories at some point.
Anyway, this morning I was out looking to see how much the "Green Hills of Earth" album was going for on eBay (and there don't seem to be any copies up for sale at the moment), but then I spotted this.
Yes, the original painting is for sale... and there's a part of me that's actually VERY glad that it's priced so high. Because then I'm not even remotely tempted, no matter how much I love it.
What kills me, though, is that I don't believe there have ever been prints of it sold... I remember looking for some on Kelly Freas's website store ages ago (back before he passed away, I think) with no luck and I've never found any for sale anywhere (not even when he and his wife would have a booth set up at conventions specifically to sell prints of his art). It's part of the reason I worked so hard to track down a copy of the record album. The audio recording is quite dear to me, but I REALLY wanted the art!
