On the Big Island!!
Apr. 29th, 2009 11:38 pmI'm afraid I just haven't had the time lately to do any updates... and this one is going to be short, because I'm pretty darned tired (plus, if we can wake up early enough tomorrow morning, we're going to head over to see the volcano!!!!). At some point, I'll try to go back and fill in the blanks for the past few days, plus a few things I realized later that I forgot to mention. This also means it's likely I've missed a ton of things on my flist... I've tried to at least skim things from time to time, but vacation adventures have beckoned.
We woke up pretty early this morning so we could finish packing... we really did bring way too much stuff with us, especially considering all the t-shirts and Hawaiian shirts we've bought since we got here. We could have gone with about half of what we hauled over here. Oh well, live and learn! Breakfast was an apple and some California roll that we bought at the airport (our choices were incredibly limited). We did walk to the other side of the airport to spend some time wandering around the Garden Court, which was almost exactly like I remembered it from 30 years ago. The flight over to the island of Hawaii was uneventful and the Kona airport is this lovely little outdoor airstrip. I wasn't expecting that!
( A bit about our wanders around Kona. )
As I mentioned, depending on what time we get up tomorrow, we're planning on heading over to the Hilo side of the island and visiting the volcanoes (something we're thinking we may end up doing twice in order to catch as many of the walking trails as we can). We definitely didn't plan enough time for the Big Island, but I'm thinking we'll probably be back within a few years. It's beautiful, there's a surprising amount of things to see and do, and the whole place just exudes relaxation vibes.
