I just realized I haven't updated since we got back from our vacation... and that I'd better say *something* before we head out. Again.

The end of a vacation -- with quick stops in Portland (so I now have haggis in the freezer! Yay! )

Let's see... other than that, we finally went to see "Hancock" which turned out to be quite good (I'd seen some mixed reviews of it so I wasn't sure what to expect). I guess I should have figured it would be good, considering it was written by one of my favorite X-Files writers, Vince Gilligan.

Oh! And when we started getting the inevitable cravings for Pinkberry frozen yogurt, we decided to swing by Red Mango to find out if it was true that they were practically the same thing. Magic Eight Ball says: "It is certain." Okay, maybe not EXACTLY the same thing, but near enough as makes no odds. Even better, a small servings is only 2 Points on WW. Huzzah!!

And now, we're finishing packing for the next trip, which is just a quick one... flying down to Utah this evening to stay with my in-laws overnight, then borrow a car and drive up to Montpelier, Idaho for a family reunion (why couldn't they have scheduled it for last week, when we could have just stopped on our way back from San Diego??), then back to Utah for a day or so before flying home Monday evening. And about 12 hours later, heading back down to the airport for my trip to Kentucky to visit [livejournal.com profile] nmissi and to drive up to Indianapolis for JadeCon/GenCon. Whew. I'm going to be *so* happy to be home when all this is done. That's just too many trips in way too short a period of time.

In Utah

Well, that made for a long day. At least I managed to get a few things done this morning, including some more prepwork for JadeCon next week.

We actually thought, for a bit there, that we weren't going to make it to Utah at all (and to be honest, I was pretty okay with that, even if it meant eating the cost of the airfare: a good excuse for not being able to make the family reunion and a few more days at home before I'd have to leave again both sounded wonderful). We left the house about three hours before our flight. We're about 25 miles from the airport, but it was getting on toward rush hour, so even with the carpool lane, we were anticipating a 45-60 minute drive. Only there'd been a rather nasty accident down in Renton, that had traffic backed up into Kirkland. We ended up getting off the freeway and taking surface streets (which were also packed, but were at least moving). It took us around two hours to make it to the airport... and we got to the desk to check our luggage about an hour before the flight was scheduled to take off. When we mentioned we'd been worried about missing the flight, the attendant just said "Not going to be a problem." Yeah, the plane we were on didn't even land until about five minutes after we were supposed to be taking off. I think we ended up leaving about 20 minutes late. Not bad, really, and it was just late enough that we were able to take a bit of a breather and get some food.

Tomorrow we drive up to a remote part of south-eastern Idaho. Supposedly, there's free wi-fi at the KOA we'll be staying at for the family reunion... I'm really hoping that's true. It's funny, because a friend of mine was just talking about how wonderful their vacation was going to be, because they were going to a resort on the coast with no cellular reception and no internet... and all I could think is that it sounds like my own personal idea of hell. :-p
