fenchurch: (Winter Frosty Strawberries)
After about a half hour or so of hail, it's now dumping snow on us... what a lovely combination. This means we'll have a good inch or more of ice, under a fresh layer of beautiful snow... and it's not supposed to get above freezing again for several days. Fun.

I'm trying to decide whether it's worth risking my neck and my car to run out and get a loaf of bread. Probably not. It's Wednesday, anyway, which means it's pizza night (pizza night used to be Tuesdays, to correspond with BtVS and the following online chat... then it moved to Wednesdays for AtS and chat, and now there's CJ chat, so it's likely to remain pizza night for a long time). That is, of course, assuming the pizza places are actually delivering tonight, with the roads the way they are.

I think I'm finally starting to shake this cold... or this stage of it, anyway. To recap: lung issues after spending several nights in a 40+ degree house during our massive power outage led to easily catching a nasty headcold with fever right after Christmas which led to annoying sinus infection which has been trying really hard to move into my lungs again. Blech. At least I'm finally beginning to feel somewhat normal again and a little less like some evil Sith Lord is using the Force to choke me from the inside out.

New episode of House!!! Spoilers behind the cut. )

ETA: Bwahahahaha!!! On the radio... they just called this Snowpocalypse 2007!!! Hee!!! So it isn't just me!!

[livejournal.com profile] rackham and [livejournal.com profile] mekle are finally making their way home through the icy mess... they were, quite literally, trapped at work for awhile. Apparently, people were having problems getting out of the parking garage (it's a rather steep hill up to the road, and it was completely iced over) and then the exits from campus were blocked in by spun-out cars and more ice. I'm hoping they were able to pick up [livejournal.com profile] missalula, who really was trapped in her building (the parking garage exit there is particularly steep and no one was getting out), since she doesn't live too far away from us. Rackham carries chains in his car, so he should hopefully do okay... if he can avoid all the other drivers out on the road!

At any rate, with the news I've been hearing about the traffic out there, I'm not expecting them home any time soon.

I've made up the guest bed, since I'm guessing Mekle will be staying with us tonight... I don't think he wants to go through another commute home like he had during our last snow/ice storm (when it took him something like five hours to do what is normally a 20 minute drive).

Pizza night ended up being a bit more complicated than normal... trying to find someplace that was still delivering wasn't easy! Pagliacci had quit delivering earlier in the evening... they'd had only one driver who had been able to make it into work and he'd been in an accident while out on a delivery, Jet City Pizza had closed down entirely around 5:00pm, but Garlic Jim's was still delivering... just with a delivery estimate of over one hour. I was very surprised when the guy showed up only 30 minutes later! I gave him a $10 tip (I'd been planning on that, even if he'd taken an hour to get here), which I hope will make up a bit for having to be out and driving tonight.
