Big Damn Movie
Oct. 1st, 2005 12:29 amJust got home from seeing it for my fourth time (first time in general theatrical release). Wow. The effect of the music and the added sounds was amazing... though I still thought some of the CGI was a tad cringeworthy (sadly, I think the worst shots of the ship were the very first ones we saw).
I loved the changes they made, some of the little snippets that were added in and even some of the bits they cut... a few of the scenes that were entirely too artfully done were cut down and not nearly as conspicuous (don't get me wrong, they were very pretty... but really didn't fit in with the rest of the movie). And there weren't nearly as many shots of River's feet!
We ended up going to see the movie at the new theaters at Alderwood Mall (which are absolutely fantastic) and the place was packed to the gills (considering the "auditorium" we were in was humongous, that's quite a feat). Though it seemed a bit strange to not have someone up front before the movie leading us in the theme song and in the Ballad of Jayne... I'd kinda gotten used to that from the Advance Screenings (however, after the movie was over we did overhear a passle of teenage girls singing the Ballad of Jayne as they were heading out of the theater). Oddly, I also didn't see any cunning hats. Maybe I just missed them, but I'd figured at least a few people would wear them.
( Brief talk of spoilery things under here -- including the big secret: River is made of chocolate! )
