Company Picnic Day
Jul. 30th, 2005 11:23 pmIt's only a little bit after 11:00pm and I'm tired enough I may just head up to bed early. Today was the annual company picnic (or half of it, anyway... there are enough people involved that they split the picnic over two days). Per usual, it was absolutely packed (I'd be really interested in finding out exactly how many thousands of people were there), but the lines at the food booths were surprisingly not very long. There were even a few booths where we were able to walk right up and get food, which heavily influenced what we wound up eating (yummy Chicken Curry over rice, Lamb Gyros, and caesar salad).
The worst part was that there were not nearly enough places to get out of the sun. And, yeah, it was probably only a bit above 85, but none of us are used to being out in the sun in the first place, and that's fairly warm for here (though not out of the norm for the month of Summer). It did make for a beautiful day to be out and about... and on our way home, we even had a very clear view of Mount Baker (the volcano to the North).
We wandered around the picnic for a bit, nibbled on the food, watched a bit of the volleyball tournament, watched some of the live entertainment, entered a few drawings, and then walked back to the shuttle buses to head home. I was really good and didn't indulge in any of the ice cream or strawberry shortcake... but this did result in our swinging by WholePaycheck Foods Market on the way home. We picked up some of these small cake thingies (all organic, unrefined everything, blahdiblah) and some organic, no added hormones whipping cream, as well as some strawberries. It was VERY yummy, and completely within the guidelines my doctor has given me. Yay!
Between the sun, the food and all that walking, I really am quite beat. My pedometer tells me that I'm already up over 12,000 steps for the day and it's just occurred to me that I need to run out to the grocery store to pick up another batch of strawberries for tomorrow. Okay, so no going to bed early tonight, after all! And this will definitely end up being the most steps I've walked in a day since I started recording the numbers out at the 10,000 Steps site a year or so ago.
