Cleaning the Junk Room
Apr. 6th, 2005 11:33 pmI blame it on HGTV. Completely. Totally.
The Junk Room was perfectly happy being piled high in stuff -- enough so that we couldn't actually step into the room, much less hunt for anything in there or, you know, *use* the room. But no... a recent addiction to "Mission: Organization" spurred me into attempting to clear the thing out.
I really, really should have taken pictures before I started, but truth be told, I was rather highly embarrassed by how bad the room had gotten. The difference is phenomenal, and I'm not even done yet. I've spent my free time over the last week dragging everything out of the room, sorting through some of it (at least at the beginning), throwing away a bunch, giving away another bunch (I *heart* Freecycle) and stacking it in every available space in the rest of the house. But it's finally starting to pay off.
I've now got storage shelves in the closet, instead the one shelf and hanging rod that used to be in there (I snapped a shot of the empty closet -- the chair is there to show scale (I was trying to describe the closet to
nmissi earlier today and decided a picture would be easier)). I moved the small day bed under the window and freed up a ton of space in the rest of the room. Of course, now I've got the grand task of putting everything back, but there's considerably less of it (I even went through the dresser drawers and tossed about half the junk in there -- I can actually *see* my craft-type supplies!), so it shouldn't be as hard. Plus, there's the storage in the closet, so it doesn't all need to be sitting out in the open like it was before.
Today was a big push to get the room finally cleaned out and to get started on the rearranging... so now I'm feeling exhausted, accomplished, and I'm trying not to get discouraged by how much I have left to do.
