After a hearty three hours of sleep, we managed to get out of the house only about 15 minutes behind schedule, but still plenty early to get to the airport on time.
We didn't actually get to see Pittsburgh -- since the airport is west of the city, we decided just to head into Ohio. The rolling countryside actually reminded us a bit of some of the areas just outside Melbourne, except with different trees and no sheep.

So far, the freakiest part is that there's *nothing* near the freeway. All the towns are off the road a bit, and even when the freeway runs through a town or city, the services I would expect to be right near an off-ramp are down the road, around the corner and a bit further along. By the time we got past Akron, we were beginning to worry that we wouldn't be able to find a hotel, much less one with wireless broadband (hey, we've got our priorities straight).

Gas is about 25 cents a gallon cheaper here, which will make the trip a lot more affordable in the long run. The toll roads are pretty funky and I'm not entirely sure of the point, since they've got to be the crappiest roads I've ever driven on... they're just in horrible shape.

We're both about ready to drop... but managed to catch a bit of the local flavor by having dinner at Boston Market. :-p Don't laugh... there aren't any in the western US anymore, and [livejournal.com profile] rackham loves their meatloaf. Quite frankly, we're too tired to enjoy anything more than that. We hit Wal-Mart and a local grocery store after dinner to pick up travel supplies (a cooler and some extra pillows, as well was water and snackables). We're gonna do the grocery store thing again tomorrow when we're more awake and take a gander at some of the more regional items, wich is always fun to do.
Anyway, I'm off to bed before I collapse on my keyboard.
