The wall is looking really good, despite the fact that it's all patched and unpainted... the previous owners had "patched over" some old nails by pounding them mostly into the wall, piling on spackle and then simply painting over it. End result: a lumpy bumpy wall. Rackham took the time to pound in the old nails and has screwed in the drywall so it's no longer popping up at the joints and has done the spackle right (meaning he's been sanding the patched spots smooth and getting them prepped for painting. We also picked up some spray texture to hit those spots with so they'll blend in even better. Seriously, it's worth taking the time to do it right.

Speaking of which, the soffit in the corner looks like it's always been there... so, so much better than bare pipe sticking through ragged holes in the drywall. Rackham does wonderful work!

After the obligatory morning run to Home Depot (to pick up paint for the wall -- we're going to use color! Go us!), we did what has become the obligatory almost-daily run to Ikea... but first, a stop at the British Pantry to replenish our Branston Pickle supply (for some reason, lately, I've been on a cheese and pickle sandwich kick) and check to see if they've started stocking hot cross buns. No joy on that score (they should start having them in the store in another week), so we picked up a Curly Wurly to split instead. Then a quick run by the Celtic Bayou to get some lemon squash to go... being a brewpub, they don't actually have to-go cups even for their soft drinks, but we brought in some Rubbermaid flip-top bottles and the waitress just put our drinks straight in there. I swear, being able to get lemon squash on tap like that is one of the best things ever. My face actually hurts a bit from smiling so much today.

We managed to track down all the components we needed from Ikea for the hanging shelves... We'll still have to see about picking up the shelving boards from Home Depot sometime next week. In the end, though, it's going to end up costing us at least $200 less than the system we were thinking of buying from the Container Store and it's going to be a bit more configurable and more like what we were looking for in the first place.

Rackham assembled the drawer units, so I filled one of them with old Atari 2600 cartridges... I'd forgotten how many of those I had! And I'd forgotten some of the titles I'd managed to track down over the years (my favorite is still the Kool-Aid Man that I found at a thrift store in Las Vegas for 99c). This whole rearranging of the classic gaming systems is having another nice side effect of clearing up shelf space on the bookcases that are supposed to be holding, well, books. I'm so excited about how it's turning out! And I can't wait to have the gaming consoles out where I can play them again.

Oh! And we got rid of the old entertainment center this morning, although not to the person who had originally posted a Wanted message to Freecycle. She ended up not being able to find a way to transport it so Rackham offered it out on the list (since it was cleaned out and in the garage already, anyway). The person who ended up taking it actually lives about a mile away and when she couldn't find a way to transport it either, we figured it was close enough we could load it on the rack on top of my car and just drive it there for her. She was happy to get it and we were very happy to get rid of it... and she brought us a package of Ferrero Rondnoir as a thank you for driving it to her place.

Lemon squash, more clutter gone, headway on the wall and some yummy dark chocolate truffles. Definitely a good day.

Sounds like things are progressing well! Isn't is annoying when previous owners make a mess of the walls etc!!

A very good day I'd say.

Any day that ends with dark chocolate truffles is, at the very least, redeemed.

There were hot cross buns in Morrisons - my local supermarket, on January 10th! They were probably there over Christmas, buried under the fruit cakes!

mmm -- Branston pickle and cheese (ideally for me a nice sharp cheddar). Lovelove.

I spotted hot cross buns in Sainsbury's before Christmas, which is sad, really. Still, it is at least now a reasonable time to be thinking of them. It must be years since I had a Curly Wurly, though. They are never as big as memory makes them.

Sounds like you're doing an impressive job. I saw the shelving system in our IKEA the other week and noticed how similar it was to my, now somewhat elderly Elfa set for my sewing stuff.

It does sound like a good day. Actually, headway on the wall would be good, but lemon squash, curly-wurly and unexpected truffles make it very good day!

Thanks! I was looking through my list of icons for a good one to use and that one just seemed too perfect to pass up!
